The next Free RPG Day...

Found this article which I though interesting:
http://www.gamingreport.com/article.php?sid=24653
The good news: It looks like TLG is going to put out a Quickplay for StarSiege. The bad news: WOTC saw this as too much of a good thing to pass up and is participating.
Don't get me wrong, it's great that they are recognizing it ... but part of me feels the smaller RPG companies may get overshadowed by this behemoth.

I wish I had the money to get involved. And a company.

Pity that it's on the Saturday of LGGC Are there any good hobby shops in Lake Geneva?

I'm glad to see StarSeige on the list (we've got a new line of sci-fi terrain hitting in February and starship deckplans hitting in May!)

Well, being listed with the behemoth might be a good thing. There are still a lot of potential C&C converts out there and they may give TLG a look after seeing them on this list.

Maybe we can talk Steve into bringing copies for those that attend the Con!

Last I heard, no. But Falconer has a book store in Williams Bay and he may sell some gaming stuff. I'm hoping to check it out next week. I'll report back if he is participating.

The best thing about having WotC on the list is this:
How many of you did not have stores in your area participating? I bet almost all. I know of the three stores I looked at, only one had even heard FRPGD existed, but they declined to carry anything because they'd have to give it away and there was no "WotC incentive" (ie, people buying other stuff) for them.
With WotC involved, a lot more stores will see it and say "oh yeah!" Likely, whatever comes will be pre-4e material, and that just might be what C&C needs...
So, its actually a good thing.

Hopefully the Trolls will put out a PDF of the quick start rules in a little while.

Maybe. I seem to recall the author just 4 short months ago or so claiming a rewrite was in order.

I believe the conditions for participating in FRPGD is the item must not have been available prior to that day.

I mean later on, after the FRPGD is over.

That is not so much of a bad thing there, dude. On our local morning news shows they did a story for Free D&D Day. For FreeRPG Day ... crickets. So, it may seem like D&D is trying to look shiney next to all the other games. But you know people love underdogs and a lot of attention will carry over. And if Free RPG Day can finally get the publicity that Free D&D Day gets, I'm all for it.
Look at comic book gatherings. All the fans go and check out the Marvel/DC/Image. But then they go over and check out the indie comics and they jump into that stuff because it's new and it makes them cooler then their friends who didn't.

Yeah. In that case nobody can get mad at me for taking one of everything.
(P.S. They didn't get mad at me for taking one of everything last time because I brought in 2/3 of my team who then went shopping and dropped over $100 altogether.)
