Campaign Journal?

Post by Eisenmann »

There's a thread about keeping track of training in the rules forum. It congealed my thoughts about tracking a campaign's progress.

I'm a software/systems/process geek so of course I've been thinking about a way or a tool to track the progress of a campaign.

Does anyone know of a tool (even a paper form) to keep track of an ongoing campaign? I realize that this could be done in a regular college ruled notebook but like I said, I'm a geek.

I made a sheet for players to use to track each session, but I'm sure you need something more involved, as a CK.

Nice work, Jaybird. I'm thinking about putting something together for a campaign log that has the feel of your player log. Thanks for sharing!

I thought someone put together a C&C version of the old AD&D DM Adventure Log a couple of years back when C&C was new (?). It looks similar to Jaybird's, in content, but hearkened back to the 1980-something look of the Log.

I host a truly vast campaign journal for David Baldwin, an online friend. It's a Hrnworld campaign titled Nolomar Rising (using modified OD&D, coincidentally) and his been ongoing since 2001.
Nolomar Rising

The entire journal used to be individual html pages (until session 83). David would send me the writeups in Word and I would convert them with Dreamweaver, create a new page and post it. Just last year I converted the entire journal to Wordpress, a free open-source blogging package. It was easy to setup, but time consuming because I had to convert 6 years worth of very long entries. The hardest part was modifying an existing theme and creating new graphics. But it works great. Now the author can login and post content himself. He doesn't need me to do it anymore.

Anyway, I heartily recommend reading the entire journal, especially if you have any interest in Hrnworld. The writing is a bit off in the beginning, but it doesn't take long for the author to find his voice and really excel in telling his tale. He's really developed into a great writer.

I actually found the site back in December when I was researching Harnmaster. Which, btw, I really like.

Zudrak, I'll keep my eyes peeled for that.
