You would think, what with all the technology out there these days, that they could make the animation less choppy.
I know, I'm a tough audience. They should have had Disney do the animating. ^_~`

Already? I'll definitely pick it up. Hopefully the FLGS will have a copy when I stop by tomorrow.
I have misgivings about it, but hopefully they've polished it a bit more since the last trailer.

I could forgive a bit on production as long as they didn't hollywoodize the story. Raistlin (I hope) will seem like Raistlin.

I just reserved it online at redbox so that I can pick it up on my way home tonight. You can't go wrong with a $1 rental. If it's decent, I'll invest in buying it. If it sucks, I won't lose any sleep.

Err...why? They had full permission to do so.

It's a very, very low-budget animation movie. There is a reason that this feature is never going to see theaters, and didn't even attempt the film festival circuit.
I received my copy of DL the movie from Amazon today. Even though it looks bad, I still want to see the finished product.

Oops, forgot to say that Margaret Weis revealed the trailer for the movie at GenCon. For a fact she said to me the animation wasn't complete yet, even for the final trailer... I have since learned that all of the animation was completed for this film before GenCon. So I was a bit peeved that she flat out lied to those who she spoke to.
Grr.

What does having permission have to do with releasing crap? The initial previews were garbage. Yay for them. They have the right to let some diarrhea go. Awesome.
What I meant was: they've got some balls to release something so awful to a hardcore audience of fanboys who will likely ignore it... but, maybe they need a write-off. But, then, maybe those fanboys aren't so picky in their cartoons. I mean, there are people who enjoy the first D&D movie, too.

Hasbro/Paramount is not going to spend a bucketload of money on a project only not to release it. Even if it is garbage, they will proabably want to recoup some losses. Even so, it probably won't diminish the reader fan base one iota.

The only question I have on my mind is whether or not they plan to finish the trilogy since this only covers the first book from the Chronicles.

And if it does surprisingly well (like Austin Powers 1 did when released on video/DVD), then they will make a live action version of the trilogy, have it produced by Peter Jackson, and turn Raistlin into a guy who has some serious issues. Oh wait, he already does.
I may go to Redbox for this. Thanks, Jaybird!

There are some people who liked the D&D cartoon series ,too. And if you look at it, it has horrid animation and tepid storylines.

Me and my wife watched it last night . It's ok deffinetly better than the first D&D movie , but what isn't. The animation is a mix animation and comp. animation. Not mixed well either the story is ok but feels way rushed . LIke the battle with Onyx ...very disapointing. All the monsters are drawn from thier pictures in the 3.0 - 3.5 MM. There is blood and death which i was glad to see. People on spikes , severed head s ect. It was OK but by no means great. Raistlin is well done . Flint is comedic relief . Some of the voices blow as well.

I was kind of excited about Kiefer Sutherland as Raistlen, what an excellent choice! However, I am sad to hear that some of the voices blow. Damn, still going to watch this flick tonight. Here's hoping!

I loved the chronicles and even the setting, however Fizban/Gandalf, Tanis/Arragorn, Laurana/Arwen, Guiltanas/Legolas, Flint/Gimli etc... felt too much LotR for me once I saw the movies and read part of its books.
That is why I think they got a low-budget cartoon style. I am sure major animating companies did not want to get involved with that. Too much LotR influences. However, the later books shifted gear and those were much better in my point of view.

Same here. I just hope it is at least true to the story, not like a live action movie I won't name.

Wow ... watched it last night.
I'm sure I didnt do myself any favours by watching Record of Lodoss and Rune Soldier before I watched Dragonlance...
BUT MAN.. .does the animation suck. The CGI + animation was terrible! The voices were terrible except Raist.
Seriously I wouldnt watch it if I wasnt a fanboy...
My wife put it right when she asked... "OH honey, is that a cartoon you used to watch in the 80's?"
It is truly a crappy production. ~~~ Grade: D

I watched half of it before I got bored with it and headed to bed last night. It wasn't horrible, but also wasn't compelling. It just... was. I'll probably pick it up when it hits the used DVD bin at Blockbuster.
As angelius stated above, the cheap production house animation married to the CG sucked. They should have just gone 100% animation. For some reason, someone thought it would be a good idea to make the dragons, draconians and fire effects 3-dimensional CG while everything else is flat and shabby.
Raist and Fewmaster Toade were done pretty well though, and the voices didn't even bother me too badly. From what I can remember of the book, they stayed pretty close to the story. Just that damned CG...
YMMV

Yeah... Wow... Somebody at Paramount and Wizards of the Coast needed to realize that animation of this quality doesn't fly anymore. The animation studios in Korea and China are pumping out (albeit Anime style) quality animation for "budget" prices.
There is no way that this video is going to go anwhere. Essentially, the first video killed any future release, that much I'm sure on.
The story is pretty well condensed to a 90 minute movie, but with the slow, choppy animation there is zero charm in this movie. The voice acting is OK at best, but the story feels so rushed when compared to the book. OK, so don;t compare it it the book and DL only seems like a more violent version of what you'd see on daytime cartoon network or the like.
There is nothing outstanding or special about this video at all.
To bad, a quality property that was wasted here.
