*shrug* Its a 'wait for HBO' movie for me. Perhaps not even then unless I am reeeeally bored and there's nothing else on.

It's a teaser alright.

And if you like JJ Abrahms viral marketing strategy, you may want to check this out:

I for one have been skeptical of it, but seeing the front of the saucer section, Spock's voice, and the classic theme music, and i get all excited about it.

Darn marketting... making me want to go see it.

Don't beleive the hype... it will not the be Star Trek of yore. It still might be a good movie, and it still might be an awesome addition to the ST universe, but it will not be good ole' Kirk and Bones McCoy.

I'm forced to agree... it may not be the same as 'classic Trek' that I've come to love but there was a sense of *something* that got me wanting to see it.

I'll go see it just to watch the Enterprise on the big screen.

That something is that the ship looks as if it will have no major changes on the outside. Although, I wish that they stuck with Machine font for the hull instead of switching to Microgramma. Reminds me of the official blueprints (that are thirty years old).

I'm curious as to the changes on the inside of the ship though. I wonder if they'll continue to use the Star Trek: Enterprise excuse, and claim that the Enterprise-E's technology in the warp ship Phoenix in Star Trek: First Contact subtly altered all the control interfaces, making Enterprise (NX-01) more advanced than the Constitution-class Enterprise of the original series.

Hmm, I don't know ~ a sweaty welder building a star ship?? Where are the robots with laser welding or something like that.

And Nemoy's old scraggy voice instead of the robust Shatner doesn't cut it!

So, the trailer turned me off completely.

However, if the movie gets good reviews and/or there are some great special effects, I might watch for a free library rental when it comes to DVD.

RE: Traveller, I would say that the interior of the Enterprise (for the new movie) will be re-imaged. It has been said that this is a reboot of the franchise, so there will be changes. I think that the new interior will be "inspired" by the original, but look more up to date for sure.

Just note then that if the interiors are re-imagined, there is a justification for it.

I think a reboot/revamp is exactly what Star Trek needs. Problem will be if the trekkies will agree or not.

From what I have seen, this trekkie doesn't agree on the direction of the revamp. ^_~`

Looks ok to me so far. Granted there's not much to go on.

I think the casting looks really good to me. Thats probably the biggest thing, so far. The look and sound effects in the teaser are old skool, which, makes me feel all star trekkie inside, which is more than I can say for the last several movies.

The casting is exactly why I will be giving this one a pass. ^_^

I haven't liked a Star Trek movie since Generations though, so that might be a clue in as to why I'm avoiding this one.

If or when they get to a Voyager movie or an Excelsior movie with Sulu's crew, original cast intact, then I'll go see another one.

Voyager? Yeah no thanks.

DS9? Hell yeah

Sounds to me your more for a continuation than a reboot.

Voyager came home dude. What's left?
George Takei is 70 now, and quite honestly isn't lead material. Though he did a good job in World Enough and Time (Star Trek: New Voyages).

I am a trekker (trekkie is considered an insult by the majority of the fans, so stop insulting yourselves), and while I am concerned that the casting may not be up to snuff, I am more than willing to give this one a looksee. Just the fact that they didn't make major changes to the ship gives me hope that this "reboot" will be a successful one. I am not the only Star Trek fan out there wanting to see new voyages of the Starship Enterprise (no bloody A, B, C, or D). Especially if the fan efforts Star Trek: New Voyages and Star Trek: Of Gods and Men are any indicator.

P.S. The person behind New Voyages, James Cawley, is going to appear in Star Trek XI, though he won't be James T. Kirk, and he didn't confirm whether his will be a speaking role or not. According to Mr. Cawley, while he was initially concerned about the look of Enterprise and her interiors, he is no longer worried. The man should know. He built his Enterprise interiors used in New Voyages using the original Paramount set blueprints, and his set is routinely praised as being the most accurate rendition of the Enterprise interiors around. I think he'd do fine myself.

Course, there's all the books Shatner co wrote with the pair of authors that would make excellent movies.

Give me something new, or continue with whats already out there. I'm not interested in 'reboots'.

Then you'd like New Voyages. It continues the five-year mission. Currently they have four episodes done including the pilot, with additional episodes planned. One of them will be a Harry Mudd story. Another one is supposed to feature the Kzinti.

I actually have watched a few of those. My sound on my computer is kind of spotty though, so it makes it difficult.

You also want to avoid, really, the 1st one they attempted several years ago... it really showed some bad acting, but the fan acttors really grew and improved. "World Enough and Time" is an excellent TV episode, with a really strong performance by George Takei. I also think the actors they have for young Sulu and Chekov are very talented too.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Paramount studios is not rebooting the franchise for the old-school Trekers. This is to bring people who are not quite familiar or had no interest in the series into the fold. New actors, directors and fresh faces.

Personally, as a trekker, while I have my concerns regarding how well the reboot of the franchise works out, I don't have a problem with Paramount doing what it is doing. Especially if it leads to another television series.
