Rules Cyclopedia Equipment Costs

Post by Aladar »

Howdy All,

I am trying to use some of the equipment in the old D&D Rules Cyclopedia for my C&C game. Particularly the costs for siege engines, fortifications, hireling, and watercraft.

However, the costs for D&D equipment and NPCs hirelings when compared to C&C prices, or even AD&D prices, don't seem to fit. I tried comparing several items from all three books (C&C PHB, D&D RC, and the AD&D PHB) but they don't work out to an easy conversion percentage wise. I found a significant difference in relative costs for the same basic watercraft between the three systems for example.
Does anyone know how much old basic D&D GPs, SPs, and CPs workout to in C&C terms?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If it's Gary DMing, just enough to empty the pockets of the adventurers so that they have to go out adventuring again.

Personally, I would just take the three costs and average them or something within that range.

Another idea... is to factor in supply and demand. Certain things may really be common in one area and thus far cheaper than someplace else. Or factors in craftmanship or quality somehow. This might be a good way to induce roleplay through haggling too.

Failing that, an average as Deogolf suggests may not be a bad way to go.
