Dear Troll Lords,
In this great time of mourning for all of us avid gamers, take heart! in less than 16 hours, there have been more than 326 posts and 126,000 page views for the Gary Gygax thread.
If ANYTHING is a testament to a man, it is being remembered. There are well over 100,000 people TODAY who have decided to honour him by sharing with each other, in just this single place. Astounding!
I hope this is not crass, but when the time is right, please share with the Gygax's this unbelievable outpouring of affection, thanks and shared loss. They should be so very very proud in that of a single man having such a profound impact with so many people.
Cheers to you all!
J.

Not crass at all mate. The Gygax's are more than aware of the postings and for sure appreciate every one.

It truly is amazing. Here, at Dragonsfoot, and all across the Web. There are tribute threads at YouTube and political blogs.
What an incredible man and incredible life to have inspired so many.

No kidding. The impact he has had on my family and myself alone, multiplied by millions.
His impact on me:
I met my wife of 17+ years because of D&D.
I have made friends with dozens of people I would never have made friends with.
I went to GenCon.
I learned to plan, to foresee, to know how to overcome obstacles, and to not give up.
I mastered basic math and greatly improved my reading comprehension.
He taught me to use my imagination and feel good about it.
I became interested in rocks. Which lead to me learning about gemstones and even to cab and facet them, and collecting a rather impressive private collection.
He gave me a game with which to spend hours playing with my kids, giving them many, many happy memories to grow up with and to carry them forward into their adult lives.
Yes, Gary had far more of an impact on humanity than he seemed to be willing to acknowledge and understand.
Just the 1,000's of hours spent playing D&D, laughing and having fun, that alone is a heck of a gift. But he started something with far more impact than just that.
Granted, he didn't plan it, didn't foresee it, but he is the one who made it happen.
We love you Gary, simple as that.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
