New Official Rules for the Adventurer Card Game
New Official Rules for the Adventurer Card Game
While we are waiting for the Portals Expansion to come out in July adding these rules to your Adventurer Games will add a whole new level of strategy to the game.
1: On a players turn instead of drawing a new card from the Castle Deck they may choose to investigate the top card of the discard pile. This is useful if the previous player missed their chance on getting a useful item such as a stake or a weapon.
When we use this rule we take any burned cards, like used Healing Potions and Magic Fountain and place them on the bottom of the discard pile. Because those item are no longer accessible as they have been used up.
2: On a players turn instead of drawing a new card from the Castle Deck they may choose to attack another hero. They can not choose to attack the same hero two rounds in a row.
The defending hero only has to meet or beat the attack of the attacker, just as if he was a monster. And likewise the defender always wins by rolling double 6s.
The winner of the battle may choose to take an item of their choice from the loser or make the loser loose 1 Life Point.
(Note, on the card Gary Gygax made, Shade the Trickster, Shade may not use his ability against other players)
Let me know of any questions, and good luck.
Kerry

True, true. Adding these rules now will add a much greater depth of strategy to the current game. Once the expansions come out the player against player rule wont be needed. (unless your are bloodthirsty) The first rule though, about drawing from the top of the discard pile will always useful and interesting.
Oh, and if things work out well, I might be able to post about a new Designer Card very soon...

Is that going to add coop mode? I'd rather play WITH the other characters than attack them.
And July! That's my son's birthday month - the one I got the game for in the first place. Nice timing!

Team-play wont be in the first two expansions. But there will be player interaction like trading, pvp, thievery, setting up traps/encounters for them, item destruction, ect
The Adventurer Dragon Game is the co-op game, where the party is working together to slay a vile dragon. But it is not out the question to add an expansion that allows team-play and going back to town to sell un-needed items and get some healing at the inn.
That is the long term goal of the Adventurer Games, endless expansions where the players can choose which they want to add to their game and make it the most fun for their particular tastes.
The Portals Expansion is all about player interaction and strategy.
The Chaos Expansion is all about more player options on what they can do each turn and new ways to win th game.

On Saturday, March 22, I'm running a Gary Gygax memorial tribute afternoon of gaming for my group.
First up will be ~ Adventure, the Card Game and all players will get their chance to be Shade the Trickster. And then, we'll probably try the above variants.
After this will be an OD&D game running Keep on the Borderlands . . . roll 3D6s in order . . . Rhuvein's old school class is in session!!
