Arthur C. Clarke

Post by Fizz »

Sadly, another great name in book writing has been lost. Arthur C. Clarke has died at 90.

Great, great author. I've read and admired his books for years . . . Dolphin Island, Fountains of Paradise, 2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010: Odyssey Two, Childhood's End and of course the great series Rendevous with Rama.

I watched his webcast when he turned 90 and he looked very good.

Hail and farewell to a Grand Master of Science Fiction.

R.I.P. Mr. Clarke.

I'm reading the thread over at Fark.com- and there are a lot of people referencing Gary's passing too.

They say it comes in 3's. Dare I ask, who's next?

RIP Mr. Clarke.

That sucks. I was hoping he would continue the 2001 series after 3001 which left a big opening for an exciting sequel.

A very, very bad year for the phantastic genre.

My sincerest condolences to his family and his friends.

And I'd just finished reading a book of his I'd never picked up just a few weeks ago. Rather sad news. Clarke was a genre of science fiction all his own, and THE big hard science fiction influence on me when I was young. Helped balance all the moonmen and Martian fembot books I read.

Yeah, it's another sad day. No doubt. There is really nothing to say other then just look at what this man really meant to literature and science. Wow.

Wow...

As strange as it may seem, my current avatar/sig combo was inspired mostly by Clarke and Bova, who dominate the top of my current to-be-read pile.

Except for the brillant Rendezvous with Rama, I always liked Clarke's short stories more than his novels. Another one from the golden age of SF is gone - very sad...

I liked them all, but the one book I've revisited often over the years is his collection of short stories called The Sentinel.

Yep, mine too, and my second-favourite film of any genre.
