Then I wanted to make sure you know about:
http://www.heroplay.com/features/rules/marvel.php

and
http://www.classicmarvel.com/

They appear to be legal, if you find out they are not let me know.

I played in a White Wolf supers game a few weeks ago and actually had a good laugh.

Something both cool and corny about the whole genre somehow.

There's also a retro-clone version of those rules, called the Four Color System, available for free download at RPGNow right HERE

It's done very much in the way that OSRIC and Labyrinth Lord recreated "that other game" based on the fact that you can't copyright/trademark mathematics, probability charts, and algorithms as "product identity".

Did I mention that the PDF is free?

Yeah, I loved Marvel Super Heroes when I was a kid. Combat was sometimes a pain, Spiderman vs 8 goons was always a chore. My DM would have the Punisher come in and kill the bad guy if we failed in stopping the baddies. He once even killed Venom, which upset us, lol.

I played 4 color a few years ago and once I understood the math after playing a few times, I saw that they had reversed engineered ths MSH. In fact, my group found the Ultimate Powers pdf (a mad product) and rolled entirely random heroes. hehe

If I were to go with a supers game, I'd probably go with BASH or the one I'm working on (I've seen Victorious!, and while good, its not a setting I find particularly appealing for a supers game,) because they are easy, and not tied to some "canonical source" like Marvel or DC universes which I stopped reading about nearly 20 years ago.

But, that said, Marvel isn't too terrible. A bit less interesting than, say, Heroes Unlimited or Super World, and far easier to deal with new players than Champions... so, anything that can get people to have a bit of fun is cool by me.

Heroes Unlimited, baby! (especially the 2nd Edition with all of the nifty sourcebooks).

Sorry to be off-topic a bit, but the Powers Unlimted books are really cool. Though, the GM of a Heroes Unlimited game really will have to put te balancing act on any powers that the PC select. This is because Palladium doesn't playtest or balance anything per se. Though, the Powers Unlimited books are still a blast.

It's funny you should mention that, out DM would always go on about how the Marvel Universe ended when the Inferno crossover started (about 20 years ago). He wouldn't let us bring up anything that happened after that event. And you know, he might have been right. But what do I know, I still believe that the Lovitz/Miller eras was the best that SNL ever had (other than the original cast of course).

Powers Unlimited 1 & 3 are quite good actually. Some really interesting new powers in those books. You are right about balance issues though. If a GM isn't careful his player's characters will be all over the map.

Yes, I was going to suggest that Powers Unlimited 1 and 3 are the best of the books, with Powers Unlimited 3 being really an inventive book. Good call Bru.

I'm not a fan of the Palladium system, but I am a fan of their books, on the whole. Lots of neat stuff in there. My favorite thing, honestly, as there is no such thing as balance, and Palladium gleefully approaches this, and seemingly caters to it. Like Synnibar.

True, whi I don't much care whether Palladium blances their games or not (any GM familair with their systemcan catch on fast), Powers Unlimited really can gimp your character or GOD-IZE your character if the GM is not paying attention.
