Hmm, it will depends a great deal on when. If its all early stuff, it could rule. I'd love to see Destro, though.

I was disappointed with the casting for the Baroness (Sienna Miller) and I'm not enthusiastic about the choice of director (Stephen Sommers) - no offense to either of them, there are others better suited for the project.

However, I'll admit that those pictures got me excited and hopefully having Larry Hama consulting is a good sign.

I'm with Serleran, impatiently waiting to see Destro (with mask).

Someone posted this at another forum I go to as well. There must be a very fine line between us, Bill, defined probably by the minuscule difference in our ages, but I'd never even heard of the GI Joe cartoon until I'd read of this movie.

The movie doesn't HAVE to be terrible. it might be ok, there is some good material in the GI Joe mythos (I can't believe I just typed that). Make the characters bada$$ like the ensemble cast of Predator, and turn Cobra into a really evil terrorist organization.

Or, make it a kids show and have it be stupid fun/action for the kids. They will make it milktoast PG 13 though, sigh.

Zartan, Snake eyes, Dr Mindbender, Duke, come on, that could be so cool.

Yeah i dunno whats with hollywood and their fascination with Sienna Miller.

Is it because she dated Jude Law, Daniel Craig and P diddy? WTF.

Not impressed with her. One of the big movie studios pulled the funding out of the De Lorentiis produced Barbarella by Robert Rodriguez because he wouldnt cast Sienna Miller and chose Rose McGowan (his new squeeze).

Better choice in my mind=Rose McGowan. Somehow "hollywood" seems to think Sienna Miller is a better "actress".

Looking at a lot of the other casting choices makes me get more of a "Streetfighter the Movie" vibe vs. Transformers vibe.

Like the kid from 3rd rock is a 27 year old "most dangerous arms dealer in the world, who becomes "Cobra Commander?" ok... I liked the guy on EnWorld a couple years back who had Cobra Commander pegged as a disgruntled amway salesman. That seems legit considering Slodobon Milosovich was a "Kinkos" type manager before becoming the butcher of Belgrade.

Lets toss in (for fun shall we) one of the Wayans brothers (Marlon) as Ripcord? Sorry, Ripcord was one of the pimpest joes ever (after snake eyes) and I remember the same Wayans retard in a little movie called... "Dungeons and Dragons" that blew major A$$.

The fact that the producer had to change the Gi Joe ethos to a "multi-national force" because evidently Bush Jr. made it so impossible for studios to sell an American Special Forces movie overseas, and it being a buddy movie featuring Action Man... all sound like $hit for lack of a better way to put it.

I loved the comics and always got a chuckle out of the cartoon but this is really shaping up to be quite horrible. Their agents should all be executed.

Oddly, Ray Park as Snake Eyes = Good. Snake Eyes using a Glock 21 .45 acp full auto. Acceptible. It does have more stopping power and is more concealable than the uzi. Sorry uzi fans, that ship has sailed. Glock 21... less recoil, faster fire rate, bigger bullet and with extended mag=comperable number of rounds.

This is the first time that I hear about this movie.

At first i was like, "Cool!"

Then I read some of the comments and found out a bit about the casting...

I could've been cool... now it might just end up being painful. Hopefully I'll be surprised. I was really surprised and impressed with what they did with the Transformers movie.

Even though they are filming GI Joe right now, the movie is not slated to drop until August 2009! Crazy. The cast is decent, though the hyper-young version of Duke makes me cringe *especially of you've seen this actor's other movies, Tatum Channing *jazz hands*.

Anyways, Ray Park as Snake Eyes is a good choice, but I think he's a bit too short for the part.

As for DESTRO, don't worry he is the main villian in the first movie. Destro will be played by Chritopher Eccelston!

Unfortuately the movie studio hired Stephen Sommers... ugh, what a terrible director. BUT, the guy can work with big budgets and get a movie to make money... unfortunately at the cost of the material.

Let's hope that GI Joe the movie is better then 2007's Transformers movie, though if it is equally is good I'll be somewhat pleased.

I hope they follow more of the comic book mythos than the cartoon mythos. The comics were far superior to the cartoon and I dropped watching the show when I discovered the comics.

I feel so old! I only know the 12-inch large action figures. Missed the cartoon with all its named heroes, as well as the comic. But I remember avidly collecting gear for the large figures ...

In the comic series I believe Cobra Commander was a Xerox salesmen in his life vefore a terrorist who was disgruntled at the direction America was taking in the late 1970's. For reals.

Used car salesman IIRC. He was also going to go straight for his son's sake when he was killed buy one of his Crimson Guards who assumed the role. Again IIRC he wasn't really killed and reclaimed power and had his usurper, Serpentor and Dr. Mindbender locked in a Sub and sank under an undersea volcano for their betrayals. Of course this was late in the series when my reading of the comic was spotty.

Are you talking the original series that ended in the late 90s of the Devil's Due series that picked back up in the early 2000's?

Original Marvel series. I never heard of the Devil's Due series until a few months ago.

Ah, as can be expected with comic series', GI Joe from Devil's Due had some revisionist history.

Don't quote me on any of it though. I kinda dropped reading G.I. Joe and the Transformers after discovering Dark Horse and the Aliens and Predator series. I flipped through them at grocery stores later on to kinda keep up so my info may be spotty. I do remember the final few issues where all Hades broke loose and Battlefarce 2000 was blown up in an oil refinery. And IIRC G.I. Joe as a team met a sad end as part of the post cold war military cutbacks. Again don't quote me and if I am wrong I welcome corrections.
