Collector's Edition Box Sets
I picked up another Collector's Edition box because I wanted to have a play version (didn't want to use one of the 300 for gaming use) which lead me to ask:
1. How many of you guys are using the CE boxed set to game? What differences have you noticed? What rules are left out besides the classes races?
2. Do you think there's any chance that the classes/races that were omitted from the boxed set could be done up in another digest sized book similar to Greyhawk supplement I?
The problem with #2 would be that there might not be enough of the CE boxed sets in circulation to make this worthwhile. The positive might be that the rules are already in the PHB and it might not be too much of a job to format them for publication.
I tend to be a rules minimalist anyway, so gaming out of the digest sized book might be fun as long as I had the classes/races that I already have in my gaming group.
Plus I just dig the digest sized game book. Takes me back to the OD&D feel and from my experiences of publishing a science fiction and fantasy fanzine.

No, because we are doing a C&C Basic boxed set which is intended to replace the CE version when it runs out. (which wont be much longer) This Basic boxed set will have race classes in it.

I'm up for that. The Basic boxed set is high on my wants lists do to the racial classes.
The basic set books won't be digest size, correct?
If not I may have to make my own. Which is doable, but I'd rather not if someone else (TLG) is willing to do the work.
Pure nostalgia value because the PHB plays just fine as is.
I figured that the CE were getting scare when I saw the Noble Knight no longer had any copies. That's what prompted me to get an extra.

Naw, its going to be more like the OD&D/Mentzer sets in size. 8.5x11 (ish).

We made 1000 in toto. 300 of those (spartan) were signed and numbered. Once they are gone, they are gone. And will be truly collectible, which was rather the point.

I've got box 301!!
I told Davis about it and he said, he and Steve would sign it, even if not a Spartan. I guess it's an Athenian one - Pericles 301.
Anyway, love the box and that's what my group started with.
My nephew has been interested in trying to CK and so we'll use the Collector's Box or the forthcoming Basic box depending on the release.
I'm sure to purchase a few of the Basic boxes for my other nephews.

I have #222 of the Spartan 300. If Davis and Steve sign you would just need Peter (not too hard if you go up to LGGC) and Mac Golden who seems to be a more difficult character to track down.
If Mike Stewart, Robert Doyle and any of thr other luminaries make it there, I'd like to get them to sign my Spartan as well.

When are the boxed sets like OD&D/Mentzer planned to be out roughly?? Sounds great.
Box set, singular. And I'm not sure. Info on whats in the boxed set can be found on the TLG main page.

I recall Steve posting about this shortly before Gary's passing, stating that the Basic set would be on the backburner till the more pressing (at the behest of most of the sentiment on these boards) CKG and CZ stuff was dealt with, as well as getting Crusader to monthly status.
Heh, if we all turn around and start yelping for the Basic set now more, I would be afeared that Steve might wind up in apoplexic spasms in the corner.
Then again, we are a schizophrenic lot.

I am running a game right out of the Collector's Edition C&C box set. I have made no changes to the game whatsoever, with the exception of a few pieces of errata, particularly about movement. With a game this lean, there is obviously not a ton of mechanical detail. We've run in a few issues that were best solved by just going with a rule out of the main C&C PHB. This has been kept to a minimum though to kind of honor the spirit of original roleplaying games.
