Remember The D&D "Hamlet" Parody Ad?

Post by TheNewGuy »

It was a full page TSR/WotC house ad that appeared in either Dragon or Dungeon for a while, and it featured a Basic D&D -style adventure module (complete with screaming fuschia cover, as I recall) in the background which, if you read the module copy, was actually a D&D version of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Castle Elsinore, ghostly fathers, fiancees driven mad, conspiracy, and bloody revenge -- it was all invoked.

Being a lit-nerd, I loved the thing. I tore out the ad, put it in "a safe place for storage", so that I could find it again, as needed" ... and you all know what storing things in a safe place means ...

... it means you'll forget your "cunning plan" and never be able to find the thing again!

This was not an ancient ad -- I'm pretty sure it appeared during D&D 3.0 or thereabouts.

Does anybody else remember it?

Does anyone know where I can find a scan or a jpeg of it?

I did a bunch of Google searching (and I'm pretty good with search term tricks) but all I got were thousands of unrelated hits.

Thanks,

TheNewGuy
