Very cool. Thanks for the info, Deogolf.

I had thought you were working on something utilizing the Redwall series, but this idea sounds every bit as interesting.

Looking forward to seeing the work.

The thought had crossed our minds, but more than likely it would have been cost prohibiting.

If enough people are interested, I may just run it at LGGC IV!

Thanks! Jim did a great job on the whole thing! I left some of the "even better" pictures for when it comes out!

Can we see a sample character? When I check out a new game, the first thing I look at is character creation... I want to know how hard it is, and how long it will take, as that's a process that can be un-fun if a character happens to die (which they will.)

That will depend on Steve. When I playtested it, we used the regular C&C player character abilities. Of course, each animal had its bonuses and special abilities. I'm not sure if he's going to go with that or if things are going to be changed.

In about a month, the new Chronicals of Narnia, Prince Caspian film will be released. When the first film hit the theaters, there was a wave of people who had considered running a Chronicles of Narnia style game. For those of you who have read the Prince Caspian book or plan on seeing the movie, I think that this release in particular will bring about another wave of Narnia-style campaigns. Prince Caspian IMHO is more RPG-like and lends itself well to a more traditional style of fantasy roleplaying.

Here's some pictures of the characters in the new Narnia, Prince Caspian film:

So, some months ago it was annouced that TLG has an anthropomorphic style RPG in the works (I think by Sieg). Is there any word or update on this possible new game? There will be lots of talk about it due to the release of the film, why not generate some buzz before the release of the movie so that the writers and TLG can say this game was not just because of the new Narnia film.

I saw the first movie immediately after re-reading the book. I would describe the movie as "just like the book, without the writing." The art and adventure idea you describe sounds a lot more interesting than anything associated with that horrible (in my opinion) film.

Although I didn't think the movie was as bad as you thought, it didn't quite live up to the book - most movies don't.

It wasn't even Narnia that got me fired up about it. I was watching Redwall on PBS a few years back with my daughter and was getting a kick out of how excited she was about the show. Then a little light bulb went on - how about an RPG C&C style based on something similar. So, I talked to Steve about it at Gamefest Milwaukee (2003-04?) and things have slowly progressed from there.

So, I can definitely say Narnia had nothing to do with this game! There isn't even humans in it, though one could if they wanted too.

My original intent of this post was not to consider your game, Deogolf, to Narnia. I was just saying that with the release of the upcoming movie interest in this type of fantasy game will swell again.

Indeed, Redwall should be the better comparison in this thread and I appologize if the Narnia references start to grate on you.

No slight taken, Omote!!
I was just responding to Boxcorner's comments.

But, if you should notice a few squirrels running around in the neighborhood with bows and arrows, I would start to worry!!

Here's a rough draft of the "squirrel" PC entry. Although it's suppose to be used with the SIEGE system, some old habits die hard (AD&D).
Squirrels

Squirrels, both gray and fox, are the watchers of the woods and plains. They are early to rise and active at first light. There is very little that they dont hear or see on their searches for food or when on patrol. If anything happens in the woods, these furry and excitable creatures are the first ones to know about it. They serve as the first line of defense if anything

strange were to occur. If anything is amiss, they will use there complex and secret language of barks and chitters to relay the information across wide expanses of area.

Description

Fox squirrels: They are the bigger of the two squirrels. Their fur is of a reddish-orange to light brown color with the underside being pale cream color. Their have a muscular, elongated body that ends in a bushy, long tail (which they use for balance and for warmth). They usually have dark brown eyes and small fuzzy rounded ears.

Gray squirrels: Are the smaller of the two squirrels races. Their fur can vary from a light to dark gray. Occasionally, they will have a brownish hue, which can be confused with the Fox squirrels. Some gray squirrels can be born with all black fur - this is not too common. They, too, have a long bushy tail. The tail is used a lot for balance especially when run-

ning along tree limbs or when jumping from tree to tree.

Environment

Squirrels are most comfortable when in and around trees. Fox squirrels are partial to open areas and prairie-type places; but, if necessary, will adapt to forested areas. Gray squirrels, on the other hand, almost exclusively stick to forested areas. They feel a little too exposed in more open areas. They like to utilize trees for hiding and quick escapes. Their homes are found in hollow cavities in the trees or in nests located in the

crotch of a tree. If on the ground, they will be in a small home or hut. Although they can be found in cities, which is rare, they prefer to stay in the smaller, more rural, communities. These usually consist of a colony of nests up in the trees (small huts or open nests).

Personality

Most squirrels are good-natured and hospitable. But, if excited, can be very difficult to understand and may take some time to settle down. Although rare, occasionally one may run into a roguish clan that can be aggressive and dangerous. These clans tend to be simplistic in nature and thought. It is best to avoid them if at all possible.

If a squirrel is an adventurer, the are more than likely going to be a ranger. This is due to their extensive woodland knowledge. But, they can be any other class is they so chose. They excel at using bows and slings (+1 to hit) and can be a real nuisance to ground dwellers when attacking from above.

Racial Traits

1. Climbing 90% base chance of climbing most surfaces. If percentage is missed, roll vs dexterity to see if they were able to catch themselves from falling.

2. Camouflage are able to blend in with the branches and tree bark when trying to

3. Hide from others (75% chance).

4. Special language they use a complex series of barks and chitters to communicate. Because of this, it is very difficult for others to speak or even understand (5% chance).

5. Bows and slings - +1 to hit with these weapons.

6. Racial attributes - +1 dexterity/-1 wisdom.

7. Preferred class: Ranger. Can be any other class.
