What a great (but odd) adventure. When and if I get my classic AD&D campaign rolling (using C&C, of course) I'll throw that in as an interlude between the Saltmarsh series and the Slavers series... just to really mix up the tone of the campaign for a little bit.
I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am... a god.

Without too many spoilers, can you say if its faithful to the original? Obviously it'll be different (its "Return..." after all) but I'm curious as to how faithful it is to the original concept. I assume its not in a Tournament style like the original?

Actually not a fan of the original all that much. Never liked to combine those elements.

You know, I did not realise that Keraptis of Dragon Strike fame also featured in White Plume Mountain...

Hmmn. I think you're right. Have to investigate. Startlingly similar, though. I wonder if there's some sort of pun involved?
God dammit, now you've making me get my Dragon Strike game out...
Right, apparently in Dragon Strike it is 'Teraptus'
...and in Dungeons & Dragons the Fantasy Board Game it's Lord Necratim the Necromancer.
...and in Key to the Kingdom it's 'The Demon King'.
...and in Dark World it's Korak, the Cobran Nemesis, Lord of Chaos and Master of Fear.
...and in Dragon Quest it's Estorax Rex the Red Dragon.
...and in First Quest it's Azazabus the Sorcerer.
which just about exhausts my fantasy board game collection.

What elements are those? Fantasy and fantasy? Are you, perhaps, thinking of Expedition to the Barrier Peaks?
Oops! Indeed I was.

Return to White plume has very little to do with the original. Very little. There is even a 4th magic weapon and a whole section of dungeon not covered in the original. If your players played the original , they won't notice alot of things that are familiar.
Return to Keep is pretty close to the original. Just there have been some extreme shifts in power in the Caves of Chaos. Players of the original, will remember some things, but other things have changed.
