I just wish he hadn't cut a page out of the Rules Cyclopedia... sacrilege!

If someone plans to actually use the book rather than just collect it, the current bid of $11 for the lot is very reasonable. I think I paid around $45 for my mint copy of the Rules Cyclopedia last year on eBay.

That's certainly true. I bought a very nice copy last year for about $45 as well... and would have bid on this auction too if it included a mint copy.

I've got a friend(locally) who has one at least in the fine, sort-of used, but in good shape range who has one. It's a spare copy. Might be able to get it for less than 20. Truth be known, I mainly played D&D out of the early 80's Otus covered Red and Blues, the late 70's and early 80's hardbacks, and the mid-90's 2nd edition books. Apart from 3 and 3.5. The rules cyclopedia came out about 9 years after my initial entry into rpg's. Still an interesting book, even though I have no sentimental value for it. May have to buy it nonetheless.

That's a nice lot - good price so far. It doesn't bother me that those 2 pages were torn out.
Tempting yes, but I can't bid ~ my gaming budget is done for the year.

They were removed, but present. No big deal. Even if they had been taken out and were gone, it's not a huge loss... a whole character sheet and spell sheet. Wow....

Got one on eBay last year (or maybe the year before) for about $30 (if I recall correctly). Some wear on the cover, otherwise in good shape. Nice book to have. I also have the PDF version which is WAAAY cheaper:

bid price up to $29 now. Mordrene, this isn't your auction is it? The bid price has doubled since you posted this. If it is you're a sneaky dawg! And it's working too!! LOL.
seriously, I was tempted to bid, until it hit $26. I just got a cyclopedia at my flgs by trading in some old stuff I didn't want, in exchange for used copies of the cyclopedia and the Insidiae.

I sincerely expect to get sniped, but I don't think I could ethically allow a RC to go for less than $25.
Oh, and if I do win, I'll probably offer the stuff for trade... so you know.

No this wasnt mine. I saw it on ebay and remembered how many people wanted one so I posted it. I'm the collecting type so i dont get this whole selling thing. My wife would like me to figure it out but all I have to do is remind her of her purses and shoes.

Thank you.
(Since it's 95% mine, from Basic/Expert/Companion/Masters).
And much of what Aaron added was, um... less than optimal, shall we say.

Agreed. Frank should get sole billing on the work, or, at worst, the byline.

Heh, my Rules Cyclopedia is so old and worn, I'm surprised I can still run games with it. The cover is so frayed that I've had to use clear packing tape to hold it together. The cover for the spine fell off years ago, but it's also "protected" with the tape. I'm running my friends through a tribute game set in Mystara. Talk about memories...

No thanks required on this one Frank. I think most of us are well versed in who was behind everything Basic D&D and the RC. No sir, it is we who should be thanking you. *tip hat*

This is one book I wish was perpetually in print.
It's a nice book to have, though the box sets capture the certain charm even more so IMO.

This is one area I always wished TSR or WOTC would have improved upon with the RC. The RC deserves to have been re-released as like a 10th anniversary edition, but with the errata added and the artwork replaced by all the original Basic box artwork. I know collector's editions of WOTCs book have not been the biggest sellers, but for the RC I think that would have been a grand collector's item.

I got lucky and a fellow on another RPG board sold me one of his RC's for $10. I also printed out the pdf and had it spiral bound at Kinko's for a 2nd "public" copy.
While I prefer Moldvay/Cook as it suits my style of Classic D&D, the RC is one heckuva impressive piece of work. It's full of all sorts of goodies you can borrow even if you don't use it as written.
