If shipping is over $9.00 it pretty much convinces me not to bid. For books, etc... IF its reasonable for the weight, fine, but its is often excessive.

I think it would be cool if eBay implemented an optional system (selected on a per auction basis by the seller) where if a bid comes in with less than X amount of time left on the auction, then the ending time of the auction gets extended by Y minutes. (I think X & Y could each equal 10 minutes).

This would simulate a real auction, where the auctioneer doesn't say SOLD until everyone has a chance to get in their bids.

Then again, their current system would work just fine if people would simply enter their maximum bid once and then let the proxy bidding system do its thing. If my snipe outbid you, well then obviously I was willing to pay more than you. If you would have paid more, then bid your max ahead of time.

Dont leave NEGATIVE FEEDBACK because of the Shipping good god man!!

Did he misrepresent or something?

Did he lie to you?

Good god Ill never sell to you on ebay

Actually, it will probably be a positive (or neutral) with 1 star on shipping, but that depends on how the item arrives. If I pay more than double normal shipping rates, I expect it to come well-packaged, undamaged, and quickly. So, I have not yet decided what will happen, but I rarely give negatives. I've only left negatives for people who sent me the wrong item and did not offer to replace or refund, and for two other reasons... so, that statement was an exaggeration, like the shipping costs.

As for you not selling to me on eBay - do whatever you want. I don't even know who you are on eBay, but there are millions of people who I can buy from. I also do 90% of my roleplaying purchases off eBay, so I really don't care.

Oh, and last thing - charging excessive shipping rates is against eBay rules - it is called fee avoidance. So, had I really wanted to be an ass, I could have reported the seller and had his account suspended or "warned." But, like I said -- he'll probably get a positive or neutral, but I am waiting for the item to arrive before making that decision. I do not rip off people on shipping costs (ask any of the people who have bought items from me, directly, here); I expect the same in return - if you want to make a profit on your sales, start them at a higher starting bid, or put a reserve: do not charge double or triple shipping fees.

I agree with Serleran on shipping rates. Since getting back into RPGing I've bought some stuff via ebay. There is something wrong when one seller, says $3 shipping for usps media mail, and another seller wants $12 shipping for the same item also via usps media mail. Didn't realize I could report that as fee avoidance though, may think about that in future too, though I won't buy an item with obviously overprice shipping.

I see lots of jacked up shipping prices. Why I always check before bidding to see if they prices are way out of whack. If I am paying for overnight shipping amounts I expect it to be there within two days allowing one day after completion of payment for the seller to ship.

Sellers seem to vary quite a bit as to how they handle shipping/packaging costs, but I would say don't automatically bypass a higher ship rate. I have many times seen folks avoid those auctions and thus much less bidding occurs, so one may get the item actually cheaper.

eBay charges its fees based on the final bid, not final bid + shipping, which is why shipping rates are often very high (and why it is fee avoidance; PayPal, however, still gets you.) However, many buyers include shipping costs in their total bid, so items (with high shipping costs) tend to go for lower than they might be "worth" (or not at all) and then get hit hard on the shipping costs (this is one reason eBay encourages offering free shipping...)

But, it is a double-edged sword. I don't mind paying a certain amount for shipping, but if it is obviously higher than it should be (like $10 on a letter...) it had better be worth it. Bidding is a legal contract - that contract implies some level of satisfaction. It is the seller's responsibility to ensure I, the buyer, am happy with what I got... and that includes how it got to me.

Anyway, the point is, basically - don't try to screw your customers. eBay has a built-in system to smack sellers around; they removed almost everything that affected buyer performance.

If the item is packaged well, I generally don't have a problem with it.

But, if they send something that gets beat to hell (i.e. module without any backing boards and lousy, thin envelope) and they charged a bunch for it, then I get ticked off!! Rarely has it ever happened, but it shouldn't happen. Doesn't take much to ship something properly, not hard at all.
