Why no link to Troll Lord Games?

Kind of odd that these are the official forum boards for TLG, yet as far as I know there are no actual links to the place where you can buy TLG products.

Both the nifty TLG banner image link and the place that says "Troll Lord Games" direct one to the index page for the boards.

Something should allow a person to click and go to this place.

Or did I miss something obvious?

Top left of the board should be a big TLG logo that links to the website. For some reason, it was absent from my screen until I installed Vista Service Pack 1, but I knew it was supposed to be there from using other computers.

[edit]

Huh, that actually leads back here. Weird. I am sure it used to go to the website.

No, it never went to the website. These boards do not allow that. I have already asked Fiffergrund (one of the forum admins) to see if it can be done, and it cannot. A limitation of the service, I suppose. The TLG logo just cycles you to the top of the forums.

What serleran said (thanks, ser)

Proboards allow that feature, I believe. Freeyabb do not. It's a pain, I know. I've wished for that logo to link to the main page more than once.

What about just modifiying the TLG graphic that you use to include the url written at the bottom? That way, should someone get to the forums by a google search, they can also see the web page address to get to the TLG site.

It's not the same as a direct link but it's something...

Fiff... what kind of controls do you have?

I run phpbb on my own webspace and it is very easy to add links in the headers or attached to images. Freyabb is a phpbb board, so it really depends on what you can and cant change. If you can modify the Themes, then you can change the TROLL LORD image above into a link to troll lord. You have to do it on each theme you have on the boards, but it's possible.

I could walk you through it most likely... let me know.

I think it has to do with freeyabb being a less-robust subset of phpbb. Not all of the features are present without paying for them, I believe. I think that's one of them, since there is no admin feature that allows the logo to be used as a hotlink.

If the Trolls hosted their own phpbb boards, we'd be good to go, but since this is free, I guess we can't complain too much.

It's not an "official" option, you have to modify the actual TEMPLATE code.

Note that the following steps only apply for phpbb version 3.0 or later. Basically, you go into the ACP (Admin control panel) and click on the STYLES Tab. Once there, select the TEMPLATES option in the left menu.

Then click EDIT for the template you want to modify.

Select OVERALL_HEADER.HTML in the drop down

Then find this bit of code (it should be a little more than half-way down)

[quote]Code:

Replace it with this code:

[quote]Code:

Then save it. Do that for every template that is active for the boards and clicking on the Troll Lord Logo will send you to the web site. You're done at that point. Easy peasy.

If this is still a phpbb 2.0 board, then I think you can actually just change the "site description" or "site name" under the general settings to just be an html link. Basically just replace the TROLL LORD GAMES with the following:

[quote]Code:

If that doesn't work, replace the code in the Site Description (right now it says "Castles & Crusades, Gygaxian Fantasy Worlds, Lejendary Adventure, The Crusader Magazine, and Aihrde") instead to be:

[quote]Code:

It's been a while since I played with phpbb 2.0, so that might be wrong, but I think phpbb2 allowed html in the site name/description.

I will definitely give that a try tomorrow during a break. I'm on a laptop I'm not particularly fond of at the moment and I don't want to be frustrated navigating through the pages.

Thanks for the tips!

Or the simple solution of creating a thread with a link and making it a "sticky"...

OK, the change sort of works, Fiff. It is a bit borked, though - buttons vanish, code displayed. I think there is a missing end cap.

No tags missing - that's just the way it turns out. It's the only option available, too, because this is 2.0 and not 3.0.

It adds the hotlink below the logo just fine - the problem is in the window title bar and elsewhere. I'm just going to undo it.

Yeah, the fix kinda sucks. Links that used to take me back to the index page are shooting me to the web site.

We *can* request the forums be migrated to 3.0. I'll look into it. I think there's a pretty wide swath of time that will be lost between the time they start the migration and when it's complete. This board will still be available, but anything posted past the cutoff day might be gone. I'll see what I can learn.

It might be nice to have 3.0 regardless of the link situation.
