Hmmmm.
I'm thinking of changing the name of the Castle Keeper's Guide to the Castle Keeper's Backpack.

I personally think it's a good idea - reinforce the nature of this product as a secondary volume for options and CK material that is different from the 3-core-book paradigm...
It would also match nicely with the Adventurer's Backpack you have mentioned.
Just don't let a change of name add a refocus that means longer rewriting and delays beyond what you hope to do (i.e. get it out this fall!)

Have you worked out its EV and capacity?

If the change can be done through find/replace, go ahead and do it.

Actually I'm quite serious. This would entail no re-writing or anything else. Its just a name change, nothing more. I like the backpack concept, plays into the literary side of the game if that makes any sense.

It seems like ideas that are meant to be a bunch of optional rules and ideas, would be more like a backpack then a guide.
Would work well with the idea of the Adventurers Backpack.
But then again, Castle Keeper's Backpack would probably not sell as well based on the name alone.

May I add that it sets this off as different from all the rest?
Seriously, I like the idea personally. It's a simple change that evokes the atmosphere of C&C.
The scratch-head part of this is that there will be those who will then keep asking "Where's the CKG core book?" long after you release it as the CKB. Conversely, if you keep it as the CKG, then those same people will buy it and assume all the options and varients you might offer are "core rules," then likely complain about inconsistencies...
So my two cents - go with what your gut tells you here. I vote and like the Backpack designation, which, as I said, then ties you to future "Backpacks" as supplementary material (Adventurer's, etc. - I'd love to see a Spellcaster's Backpack myself).

Ya - that'd be my one worry too... for the reasons I said above.

So if I named it CKB, then people would STILL be looking for the CKG??? Now that is too much of a temptation!! LOL
I suspect Aldo Ghiozzi, my sounding board and the dude who sells the C&C line will frown at me.

Would the backpack also come with the Castle Keeper Trapper Keeper?

CKB huh? I think it's great, especially if the Adventurer's Backpack is still going to see the light of day. Gives the feel of one book of optional stuff for the CK and one for the player.
If you do this however, make sure you change the name from CKG to CKB in the 4th printing of the PHB (What do You Need to Play on page 5).

I don't care what you name it - just print it.

Thumbs down on a players' backpack. The last thing I need as a CK is a bunch of whiny players pointing at some optional book every five minutes demanding new powers and rights and options. C&C is a universe properly run by a merciless god wielding an almighty thumb that presses down on all the poor fools who dare tread in his domain.
As for renaming the CKG, I think it would be a mistake at this point. First, as soon as you announce the name, there will be a wave of internet posts demanding a release date again. It's bad enough that these waves come through every 2-3 months at this point. There's no reason to encourage more of them.
Second, you'll still get a bunch of idiots demanding to know when the CKG is coming out now that you've decided to start working on this backpack thing instead. Ugh.
Third, from a marketing perspective, I have to think that you would sell more books entitled CKG than CKB just based on the name alone.
Fourth, can you imagine the confusion and hell that would ensue with retailers like Amazon? They'll still be listing the CKG with a TBD release date for the next 100 years.

Castle Keepers Backpack? Ummm. Maybe not. Looking forward to the CKG, CKBP, or whatever it's going to be. "Guide" just seems to fit better, name-wise. Actually, I'll second the EV concerns. *ducks out of the way, as well*

Count me in as another for keeping CKG. Just less confusing and more like the....er..."original" game. You know what I mean!
BTW, remember that F A N N Y is a much naughtier word in the UK than here in the States.

I'm for keeping it a 'Guide'.
Backpack is not evocative of anything informative, creative, or exciting to me. A backpack itself is mundane and empty -- it's the stuff you put inside it that's interesting. Like if you put a Guide inside it, for instance.
Plus it's confusing marketing -- "I don't want a backpack -- I'm looking for a book. I already have a bag for all my game stuff." I guarantee you some folks will be confused.
My two coppers, but I personally don't feel that particular name improves upon the idea of what the product is.
