Can't wait for CnC Basic!!!

Post by papercut »

I live in Taiwan where I do a bit of English tutoring. Over the past few months, one 2 child class has been playing CnC for about 30-45 minutes a class to close out the session. They love it and are starting to show some interest in reading some gaming books. I printed out some legal copies of the 2e Arms and equipment guide, as well as the 2e MM for them to check out.

The pictures in those books are very helpful when we play the game because they don't always have the cultural background to understand some of the more historical/fantastical features/creatures in the game. I would love for them to read the rules as well, but short of a total rewrite (something I considered) the books are prob to hard for them to read and enjoy. I looked at the BFRPG set and it wasn't really what I was looking for.

I am gladdened to hear that the CnC Basic set is being written with a younger audience in mind. Hopefully it will be the perfect tool for this kind of teaching/learning. RPGs are a wonderful way to get children to participate and enjoy the learning experience. Any idea on when this will be ready? I would love to play test the beta version with the kids I teach, I'll even pick up the printing tab!

Cheers

Seems that many folks on this board are a big fan of the Moldvay set. I can't seem to find the pdf on paizo or rpgnow. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Cheers

strange that they did pdfs of earlier and later editions but not the one you want.

Yes, it's odd but there is no (legal) version of the Moldvay Basic pdf. You can get Mentzer's Basic pdf for about $5 (USD) which are almost exactly the same rules, just organized a bit differently in the text.

Thankfully, I've got the old Moldvay/Otus cover boxed set(bought a copy that's too nice to get out of the box unfortunately, complete with order forms for t-shirts, etc) Who knows what their reasons are for not offering the edition that fans really want. Sometimes it sucks for us 30 and 40 somethings who collect things from our past. They either won't reprint what you really want, or there's too many people with too much disposeable cash on Ebay, or there's just too many things to buy that you can't afford any of it. As a person who likes rpg's, fantasy, sci-fi, comic books, dvd's, etc. it's hard to keep up with collecting anything these days. Not to mention that I quit one of my two jobs last year. I'm more sane for having done so, but I do miss that extra money.

Just to mention, because you're doing it arguably for educational reasons, the you can copy stuff more broadly than the average bear. Fair Use and all that. : ]

Yep, I'll be buying this box ~ actually a few most likely. One for me and 1 or 2 for my nephews.

They seem like they're ready to CK a game..

After finding that the red box odnd books are not that difficult to read, I printed out some copies for my students. We are going to read thru them as homework and talk about them in class. I wish it were the CnC books, but the fluff in the old books is just as good til I get the new ones from momma troll.

It would be interesting to see the difference, considering this product is expressly geared toward children, rather than the current adult.

I got the LJ Essentials boxed set some time ago and I must say, I really liked it. If the C&C Basic game is anywhere close to that, I will probably purchase one set, if not more (for the holidays in a few months).

The hobby needs a new generation not brought up on instant fulfillment ads and pokemon crap, if you ask me!

Has there been any indication when this might be ready? Nothing specific, just in general.

2008?

2009?

When Hell freezes over?

I'd like to get this for my son for Yule, but I'm guessing it wont be out by December.
