Dave Arneson is in ill health....

I recieved this message from Dustin Clingman and I figured I would pass it along.
Quote:
Hail Blackmoorians,
I've received many emails from players and fans in regards to Dave Arneson's Health.
Dave is an extremely private person and I've discussed the matter of his health with him in order to be able to provide you all with information so that the rumors can hopefully subside.
Dave has formally retired from teaching and has moved permanently back to Minnesota to be with his family as he works through some very
serious health issues. I speak with him every day or so to get updates and right now he's doing fine.
At this time, Dave is planning on attending GenCon assuming his doctors allow him. If you've ever wanted to meet Dave to shake his hand or thank him properly for polluting your childhood with D&D, that would be an extremely good opportunity to do so.
Those who are interested in writing to Dave directly may do so at
dave@zeitgeistgames.com. He makes every attempt to both read and answer emails, but please be patient.
This campaign continues on and serves his legacy and the legacies of the players who are the true spirit and foundation upon which all RPG games reside. Let's all work together to honor Dave and his creative mind by helping to make the world of Blackmoor a vibrant and outstanding place for people to enjoy themselves.
Uther Once And Always!
Dustin Clingman
President, Zeitgeist Games, Inc.
I'm sure Dave would appreciate a small email from many of us wishing him a speedy recovery and that he is in our thoughts. I still hope that someday Zeitgeist and Troll Lord will team up to make a Blackmoor using Castles & Crusades (even if they have to call it Darkmoor to keep WotC at bay).

I've known about this for a while through contacts on my OD&D boards. He's in my prayers and I'm hoping he recovers quickly.
And I'd love to see his material published in C&C. It's such a good fit....

Thankfully, I have met him at the last couple of Gencon's. My friend met him last year, but forgot his corebooks at the hotel that day. Dave was nice enough to provide some sort picture card of himself to sign for my friend. I know there was some sort of health issue when I saw him last year. Required the temporary use of a wheel chair, but I don't know much beyond that. I hope Dave can recover from whatever he's dealing with. And, I hope he joins all of us at many Gencon's to come. WOuldn't be the same without him.

Pardon my ignorance, but what keeps Dave Arnesson from doing anything he wants with Blackmoor? I thought that BM (unlike Gary & Greyhawk) was fully DA's property to do with as he wishes?
While I'm not really a Blackmoor fan (liked the original Temple of the Frog though)... I hope Dave A. makes a recovery.

I'm clueless about the ownership of Blackmoor. I just thought I'd give two thumbs up to your PS238 quote. I've been buying all of the issues. Aaron Williams is a Missouri native, and attends Egyptian Campaign(in Carbondale, Il) regularly. He's a fellow geek, rpg-er, and all around nice guy.

Not to derail, but yeah PS-238 rocks. The character of "Revenant" was actually from the original Champions game and a pic of him is in Champions book III.

From what Ive been able to gather from Dustin and others is that Blackmoor, like Greyhawk, is considered WotC's IP. Sadly, Zeitgeist can't simply do as they wish with it or else I gather that a collaboration between TLG and ZGG would be possible. Thats why I think they should get around the IP by having a Darkmoor C&C setting.

Ok.... But how did they get around that with Judges Guild's _First Fantasy Campaign_? I don't recall any legalism in the text stating that TSR owned Blackmoor, but maybe I just missed it. Will go reread!

They sure put the kabosh on Margaret Weis Productions' D20 Dragonlance. So, we'll see about Blackmoor.

There was no setting in the original Blackmoor booklet, only the Temple of the Frog and mention of Blackmoor Castle.
Course I'll have to look at the DA modules, but I don't recall any mention of the Judges Guild FFC. I can only assume Dave held the rights, not Judges Guild, so that TSR could create those modules.
