I wonder...

Well that is true but I don't buy into the fear mongering that the theorists want you to believe. So no I don't believe in ten men in iron lungs wanting to usher in a new world order.

And here is a news site worthy of the whole 'truth' movement and it is just as believable. Link

and I suppose you believe Oswald acted alone?

Oh he sure did. One can look at all of the evidence compiled by the Warren Commission and it holds up very well. Dan Rather did a kind of myth busters special years ago which they replay every year around November 23rd on the History Channel. In it they go through the evidence and recreate all of the forensic, ballistic and physical evidence to show how Oswald did it, prove that it was in fact possible for him to do it alone, and clear up some of the long-standing misconceptions regarding the events like the "magic bullet theory." People just don't like the idea that some lone idiot could kill the President.

Oh that lovely little film. We've gotten into the Jesus Myth bit on these boards before and it's probably not a really good place to go again.

Being an atheist and a firm believer in both reincarnation and evolution, I believe everybody is wrong when it comes to their core religious beliefs. While the information presented in the linked excerpt of the total film is valid, I don't see the point in debating it because I've found through past experience that debating people on religion only causes them to believe in that religion more strongly than to simply leave it be.

Oh, and Socrates was wrong. Debate is beneficial. Argument is simply two people screaming at the top of their lungs that they're right, and not interested in finding out if they actually are or not. I freely admit I could very easily be wrong in my views, and it wouldn't be the first time.

Seeing where this is going I'm out of this conversation. My faith and beliefs are my choice and mine alone. They come from personal experiences that shaped who I am and what I believe. I accept others see things different. I don't fault that. But I refuse to debate or argue the point. Such things only hurt communities.

I'm with you. I'll debate many things, but religion is not one of them.

Yep. I am the only person you can safely debate religion with. I don't insist, or even think, I have it right. So, as you know from our hours of talking religion on the phone/SKYPE, I can handle it as long as you can.

Yeah, I got carried away, as I find this stuff insanely interesting, and because of my Anthropology background, I end up analyzing things without thinking of their importance to real life people.

Just a bad mood pour moi last eve, and I apologize again profusely if I offended anyone.

Perhaps a gaming board is not the place to discuss the symptoms of the universe...

Unless the universe in question involves the great wheel, and the tensions between prime material and other planes

I do not mind debating religon with folks - we all just need to be respectful of each others views- but one thing I have found is that often when debating when one person is speaking the other one is not really listening- but just waiting for the other guy to shut up so they can say what they want to say... so most times it is like throwing noise back and forth

*sigh*

No kidding. Plus I find it very funny how people seem to think they can prove they are the ones who have it "right". Its the perfect topic of circular arguments, because no one can definitively prove anything until your dead.

So you only "win" if someone decides they like how you believe in your beliefs, not due to any provable facts.

But yeah, we better quit discussing"real" religion, or lack thereof, before someone gets offended again.

Only fake religions are allowed to be discussed here! Even so, safety from being offended is still far from guaranteed!

Good. Now it's my turn....
I don't mind defending my religion, but I don't like calling people out on theirs either. Politics, however is fair game.
Don't worry about anything Slimy. People get invested in things and sometimes talk loud and a lot. Especially with a couple of cold ones in them...just ask my wife.

Well, that's the thing: spiritual vers. non-spiritual topics are very debatable, so they end in arguments as opposed to discourse.

I do find that people get very hot under the collar at the suggestion that governments may occasionally be untruthful.

Which is the reason a person got offended in this case...before religion was brought into it.

My view is that, if people get upset over consiracy theory threads, why read them?

If I hate Forgotten Realms, and someone posts a thread on FR, I don't get peed off and tell them to F off and then leave the site.

Yes you do Slimy, you always make fun of Greenwood and my love of FR. I have sat in the darkness of my room with my wotc minis playing out Ed is good, Slimys are bad bad bad!
