The Decanter of Endless Water

Post by ChaosImp »

Hi guys

Just a question for everyone, if someone used the geyser from the decanter on a fire elemental what do you think the effect or damage would be? At the moment, I'm running a C+C version of the Temple of Elemental evil and the party has found the decanter in the Air Node, eventually they will find their way to the fire node and theyre looking forward to being firefighters. Thanks for any ideas.

I would have its effect treated as a disintegrate spell; note, however, that the user of the decanter on geyser strength has to be secured, so its not easy to walk around and blow things away with it... especially in a place where the enemies can melt, literally, into tjhe floor and rise behind you...

So, they might get a few, but its far from the most effective strategy. Kudos on the thought, though.

I'd treat it like a Cone of Cold. Disintegrate is a bit powerful, in my opinion.

Not really -- either death or very little damage. I think tons of water on a living fire would be able to do either of those. :) A simple damage effect is pretty weak, unless its a lot of damage (or no save.)

So, maybe something like a direct hit = X damage, half on save. Splash damage = a lot less of X, save for half.

Maybe X = 20. And a lot less than X = 10.

Thanks for the ideas, I might try with the disintegrate effect and then have an obscurement based on the size of the elemental.

Cheers

Alternately, kill the fire elemental and create a steam para-elemental.

Boo yah.

That would be truly ruthless...I like it.

You could treat it as a breath weapon (as in a dragon) of ancient size.

Fiffergrund,

That is a very evil idea which I like also. I think I will keep that idea on reserve for future use myself.

That is hard core, son, and EXACTLY the type of thinking that motivates me when I'm running a game!

MUA HAHAHAHAHA.

It was a moment of truly demented inspiration. What can I say?
