I'll tell you, the way Shawn keeps a smile on her face is unnerving me. Is she really just that easy going and cheery? Or is she an automaton with a painted on face?

No, no. This girl is the real thing. Great personality, well grounded in reality and an excellent sportswomen. I'm darn impressed.

She is no prima donna or egotist. She is very appreciative and articulate about having the opportunity to represent the US. She was thrilled to receive a silver metal and was not a cry baby.

I'd say many athletes and so called Olympians could learn many things from Shawn.

Don't forget, she's a 16 year old kid from the midwest and realizes she needs to enjoy the moment and have fun while competing.

Well done, Shawn!!

I definately am impressed with here and Nastia. But I hate the new scoring system. It seems to be causing too much controversy. Was the old system that bad?

I'm boycotting the Olympics seeing as how they have missiles pointing at me.

Plus, I am generally against the PRC government, every single thing they say is a lie. It is true.

Yes. Shawn Johnson has nerves of steel out there. The balance beam always creeps me out when I watch. Ugg, when they fall or just land on their crotches I shiver and wince.

But Shawn showed us how one takes that event/exercise and masters it!

Well done!

Yes, great job by both of them, and Shawn finally got a gold to take home!

Now to see if the girls volley ball pair repeat their gold.

Not sure how many of you are into soccer, but the game yesterday between US & Brazil was great! & the men's beach volley ball (while not near as much eye candy as the women's) was way to close until the 3rd set.

Side note did you all hear about the official review of the china's female gymnastic team? Paperwork was found that makes some of the girls age closer to 14 than 16...

I don't know. Sounds like the Olympic Committee isn't interested in the truth. IF they were, why would they ask the Chinese government for proof? I mean if they are already offering up forgeries, what makes them think these new documents wouldn't be forgeries?

I loved track and field when I was a kid, except for track, coverage of the other events has been lame thus far. Decathlon coverage is/was awful.
Bryan Clay is a great Olympian and sportsmen (and a great dad, it seems)!

I couldn't agree more! Other than the runners from Jamaica, and the 2 relay team dropping the baton, track & field coverage has been, at best, highlights of the highlights. I'd have loved to see more of the women's pole vault (America took silver beat by the Russian- both watching for the eye candy at the very least) and from what I saw Clay was doing great things but the coverage was just a blurb here & there

And that's it until the paralympics. The daughter of a friend at work is competing in the tennis, so I'll be looking out for Jordanne.

Now, there's a thing. If I were running the 2012, which I'm not, I'd push hard for an end to the differentiation, and run the events together. No more "proper" olympics, followed by "aw, bless" olympics.

Team GB did much better than they even hoped, but our track and field athletes have got to seriously get their collective fingers out. No more excuses; the other sports can do it with a fraction of the budget, so the old flannel falls flat. Mind you, it's harder now to get cycling medals if you're a woman, since the IOC have scrapped all but two of the events.

One sour note for me was the way in which our girl was so shamefully robbed in the Tae Kwon Do. Memories of Judo in Barcelona (Spanish opponent runs away and doesn't get penalised for passivity?) Hell, it was so obvious that even the oligarchic judges had to cave in to the truth and reinstate her, but of course after that she was in no shape to compete at her best in the semi-final just a few minutes later.

And what was going on with the Cuban boxers? They all seemed so strung out, not like their usual form at all.

Well, despite the Chinese gymnast "babies", politics, unsportmenlike conduct, dopes, doping (even horse doping!), in your face Phelps coverage and other bizarre stuff - I really enjoyed the Olympics and it seemed to be a great success.

It certainly was for the Brits; we haven't done this well in a century.

I have to say, the horse event in the modern Pentathlon was the best event of the entire games. It was hilarious!
