Well, someday (after completion of Creatures Features) I could work on some Oriental Adventures stuff for C&C. Except I prefer it to be Chinese than Japanese. So, is there someone around who could give me some Chinese words for D&D/C&C class concepts?
-- Sword-saint (weaponmaster and duellist specializing in the sword, the kind you see in Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon movie).
-- Imperial Guard (an elite soldier of the Emperor, totally loyal)
-- Monk (archetypal Shaolin monk who practice martial arts)
-- Mandarin (scholar and civil-servant of the empire)
-- Ghost-hunter (Taoist priest and ghost-hunter exorcist, as found in the Chinese Ghost Stories movies)
-- Priest (typically a Taoist priest who cast spells)
-- Sorcerer
-- Bonze
-- Shaman
-- Thief
-- Assassin
-- Barbarian (typically Mongol horseriders and raiders)
-- Sellsword / Mercenary (a wandering fighter, typical adventurer)

Also I forgot
-- Investigator - Police: In numerous wuxia movies there are kind of investigators/police-officers who practice martial arts, who hunt criminals.

This is all in Mandarin using the Hanyan Pinyin Dialect. There are four primary languages that comprise Chinese-- Mandarin, Wu, Min, and Cantonese. They are dissimilar and speaking, reading, and writing each language is a separate affair, meaning if the Mandarin General meets the Min Princess, he'll likely need a translator present to understand her, unless, of course, he happens to speak Min too. Mongolian is a whole separate and distinct language tree itself, with many dialects and variants.

Sorry, the phrases I know in a number of foreign languages would not be very helpful in this instance. Finding a lady friend for the night yes, descriptive terminology no. ^_~`

Sorry, the only thing I can say in any asian language is something I learned from a Marine. It's a particularly deadly Japanese insult, guaranteed to start a fight.

Looks good so far, Dragondaddy has done a fine job. I'll submit some alternatives soon. Which words do you still need translating?
Chinese is a broad language so there could be several translation for each English word.
For example, Assassin could also be Shashou 殺手 or 刺客
乾杯

My lady speaks Cantonese but it looks like you got your answers in Mandarin which is the far more prevalent language in China so you're good to go! Obviously Dragondaddy gets the linguistics award for the precise translations. Nice work, Dragondaddy!

Well, anything you can propose will be good. Then I will probably make a choice between what sounds better to my western ear...
