WintersDark 2009?

Post by Piperdog »

Ok. GenCon got me pretty stoked, but I can't wait a whole year before going to another convention. Is the next WinterDark convention still going to be in January? Is it at the same place as last year?

Last I heard, WinterDark was a go. When, I dunno. But, as it approaches, more will be known.

I had a nice conversation with Luke Gygax at Gencon this past weekend. He really wants to do a Con in memory of his father up there in March. So the plan is to launch a tribute Gaming Day in March. Something very small, an intimate gathering type deal at the Legions Hall. So with this in mind we are moving Winter Dark down to Little Rock, or somewhere closer to us this year. The logistics of it will be much much easier.

It will be modeled after Troll Con. As I get a greater handle on this and the tribute convention I'll let you all know.

But do look for Winter Dark in January or thereabouts!

It will be sadness as well for Mona and myself, as coming from NE Wisconsin to Arkansas in January probably won't be a go....

Now we will be there with colors flying for GaryCon when it's settled in March and for the next LGGC!

And, barring ANY more surgeries (knock on wood this past week is the last for awhile!) we might look to see about combining a trip to Troll Con (if it's still in summer) with a trip to visit family in the south next summer.

Winter Dark II was a total blast and of course it was special as it was the last time we got a chance to hang out with Gary.
But I can understand moving it or rolling part of it into a GaryCON.

So, count me in for the March event!

GaryCon - yes! WinterDark - maybe. Travel in winter around here can be sooo iffy. Will just have to wait and see.

More Cons near Little Rock greatly increases the chances I'll actually be able to make it to a con some day. So, good news for me.

Nice, we'd love to have you come out DD! I am really stoked about how well Trollcon went compared to years past and look forward to more successful cons in the area. My chances of attending roll up to 100 percent compared to near nil when the cons are here in town!

Yeah, Little Rock is only about a 5-6 hour drive for me. So, it greatly increases my ability to attend. Now, actually getting time approved off of work is another matter entirely.

Steve and I are meeting tomorrow to discuss Winter Dark 2009 and other things. I will let everyone know more once we have a more solid plan of what's going to happen with Winter Dark.

Thanks,

Richard

OHHHHH I see how it is. When the troll has to lumber north in the freezing snow and ice your all like, its easy! but now that you have to drive in the warm shunshine and bask in the heat of an almost continual spring your like...oh its too hard!

50 degree spreads in a day mixed with rain sorta get annoying

in winter some days get weird.

morning clear and sunny 75 degrees.

noon 40 degrees raining

6 30 degrees sleeting

midnight ice

9 am 80 degrees

actually, the biggest temp change in 24 hours i underwent in AR was 62 degrees. cold front with snow slammed into us one afternoon

Yeah, but it's Arkansas dude, ever see Deliverance? I can hear the banjo music now, all that's missing is someone yelling "Squeal like an Orc!"

That's a slanderous stereotype!
I'm a native Illinoisan and I made the trip down to LR for TrollCon!

Most of the folks were very polite and helpful and alot of fun to be around.

Only 25.3% of the people I met in Arkansas tried to make me "squeal like a pig"

You must've gone to a pretty swanky part of Arkansas. That average is a might bit low.

Actually, it's about right. The other 74.7% believe in "keeping it in the family" if you catch my drift.

Being from Texas myself, your Arkansas humour rolls off of me like rainwater. Now, if you want some REAL squeel like a pig action, try ALABAMA!

We had a good meeting, other than some allusion to a fort that Breakdaddy wants to build, McBain should be making an announcement on Winter Dark today.

If you did the CK screens in the style we're talking about, Breakdaddy could build a fort out of them that could withstand an army of ogres.

Haha! I promised Steve I would bring him my WFRP2 screen so he could see what we're talking about DD. He is ready to check it out and see how feasible it is.

PS- My fort was the BEST PART of our meeting, recanize, Steve!!!! Sadly, I think Steve may be anti-fort

Just did a Mapquest to get a rough idea of the distance (Milwaukee, WI to LR). I would have about 745 miles to drive which is entirely doable. I've done it a couple of times going out to the Dakotas.

This is starting to look better all the time!!

Well, looks like I might be able to go to WinterDark this coming year. One of my roommates has an uncle that lives about 80 miles from Little Rock, so he might be able to tell us where to go and so forth. Will know more the closer it is to Con time.
