End of the OGL

Post by Druw »

Got this from RPGNow:
Quote:
IT'S THE DOG DAYS OF D20!

As everyone should know by now, the D20 trademark license has been terminated, and publishers have until the end of 2008 to conclude sales of their old d20-branded products.

Does this effect Castles & Crusades?

(please say no, please say no, please say no)

First, you have to understand the clear difference between the d20 license, which has been revoked, and the OGL license, which cannot be.

These are two different things.

The d20 license gave a publisher the right to add the terms "Compatible with D&D" on the cover of a given product. With this came the limitation that one also had to put 'requires the 3rd ed D&D PHB to use' or words to that effect.

The OGL is a different matter, and is what C&C is being published under. So the revoking of the d20 license has no effect on C&C what so ever.

Actually this thread does bring a question (which may end up being a suggestion) to mind.

With TLG clearing out their old d20 stock at rock bottom prices... will they be doing something similar with the various d20 pdf's they got? Maybe even a bundle of all the d20 PDFs at a single low-down price.

I've got pretty much all their d20 stuff in hardcopy and in some cases, I even have a few doubles. However, I would love the chance to get PDF versions of some of these products for some of the same prices that the physical product is selling for.

IMO that would kick some serious ass if the Trolls could do this before the stuff is 'yanked' from cyberspace.
