I definitely understand the price deal. It kinda hurt picking up the PS3. But this is the first time I've had a current console since....well since the Super Nintendo I suppose. I never got a PS2 until the PS3 came out.

My wife discovered Oblivion last night. For all her grumbling about the price tag of the PS3 she hasn't said a word about it since she started playing Oblivion. I think it hooked her.

Price is just one of the problems I have with the current console market. The whole online hard-on the market has adopted is also a turn off. I'm not a fan of online gaming and never have been. I feel the whole thing is a racket.

Like some others, I thought I wanted a PS3 until I saw the selection of Software on the 360. It trumps the PS3 for just about every game of the types I like. Im not a fan of sports games or button masher/fighting games, which seem to be more prevalent on the PS3. However, after reading about the sad state of hardware malfunctions on the 360, I opted instead to remain a PC gamer for the time being. Fallout 3 is going to rule. Did they get Ron Perlman to be the narrator again?

I will admit, for a family-oriented system, Wii is the best, hands-down. I might have stayed with a PC as my primary gaming outlet, but I had heard a while back that certain games, notably Madden 09, were going away from the PC platform. I'm not all up for online gaming either (though I do have a WoW account) but I spend more time console gaming than anything else. 360 had the benefit of a large library, a good cross section of genres, and it was cheaper than the PS3. I'm pretty happy with my decision.

Speaking of which, have you seen that Bioware is coming out with Dragon Age: Origins? It looks to have the Baldurs Gate type engine running it.

Sweeeeeeeet.

A bit of thread necromancy here... not from too far back but far enough!

I'm happily playing my way through various games on my XBox 360 since I got it at the end of 2008. I've been having some fun with a few games with others waiting for me to delve into. I did finally get Oblivion though I haven't started playing yet (it's on standby) since I tend to focus on only a couple games at a time. Time being a bit of a premium I do like to complete various games before moving on to the next.

With the encouragement of a fellow gamer, I've signed up for a Gold X-Box live membership but I'm wondering who else has a 360 and who might also be on X-Box Live Gold.

I just picked up a Wii for my wife for her birthday. Can anyone recommend good Wii games for couples? She particularly likes puzzle games or games kind of like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (which was a PS2 game).

I just got my wife the Monopoly game that was recently released for Wii. It's pretty good.

WiiFit is fun, even if I've been slacking the last couple of weeks. MarioKart is neat as well. I'll take a look through the collection and see what else I've got. If you go online with it, you can download all of the old original NES games, if there were any of those that you liked.

Hope this helps,

Does that include Zelda I, II, and Final Fantasy? Wii might be moving up on the list...

Not Final Fantasy (yet) but you can get the Legend of Zelda, The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I can only assume that others will follow based on their popularity 'the first time' or demand. By the looks of it, they are slowly adding more and more.

The Wii was a strong contender for me because of the 'retro' factor. Alas demand is still a bit high for this little thing depending when you are shopping for one.

My friend has a Wii and he has the new Zelda game on it. He says it's really cool. That's one of the biggest things I miss about not having the Wii - I loves me some Zelda. Other than that, I don't really know what els is good or not good, though I have heard some interesting things about the Trauma Center games.

The most recent Metroid title rocks. Granted, I never finished it because I got stuck and didn't feel like taking the time to get past the sticking point, it's still a way cool game.

The WiiSports game that comes with the console takes me back to playing Amiga baseball with a buddy of mine growing up. There are nights when I enjoy that. Marvel Ultimate Alliance is fun as well. Nothing quite beats grabbing a bad guy with the left hand, holding him in the air by his throat and using the right hand to pummel the snot out of him. Big fun!

You can get the newest Zelda for the Gamecube. I have it and it was a blast.

I don't think the most recent Zelda came out for GC. It might have, but I'm pretty sure that it only came out on the Wii. It's fun too.

http://www.gametab.com/images/ss/gcn/27 ... ally%20did, Sir Osis, and I forgot about that until JG mentioned it. I think it was the "last great release" for the Gamecube. I know that it's a pretty challenging game, so my friend says, for the Wii. I would guess it is for the GC also.

Noop. Just a PS3 here.

X-Box has some games I really would like to try but I've always heard so many horror stories about the things breaking down I went the PS3 route.

Now I'm waiting on God of War 3 to someday release. That game looks absolutely friggin' awesome.

I wouldn't be confident with an earlier model of the Xbox 360 either. Fortunately the many issues plaguing the system seems to have been addressed. The motherboard/chipset used in the newer production models seem to be very solid.

God of War series was one of my favorites on the PS2 -- I'm sure God of War 3 will be awesome. There is a Conan game in a similar style which is also quite fun -- I've played it on the Xbox 360 but they also have it for the PS3. I got my copy new earlier this year for only $20. Sadly this is the closest I've come to finding a 'God of War' type game for the 360.

I like the Wii... I really do... but I'm not that taken with their game lineup. There are a handful that look fun but largely those are the ones also on the X-Box. I will say that out of all the other Nintendo consoles, this lineup is certainly the best since there is a broader attempt to reach a more diverse audience.

That said, if a Wii somehow came into my possession, I wouldn't complain.

The PS3 on the other hand... well... I admit to being biased against it but this is more because of Sony's push of Bluray -- a format I do not care for.

Heh, that's the primary reason I ended up with a PS3. I was saving up for a Blu-ray player and just went ahead and payed extra to get the PS3.

If you can find it for an inexpensive price... I'd at least consider it. The hardest part for me initially was hearing Ron Perlman's voice for Conan. Does anybody else have problems imagining a voice other than Schwarzenegger?
Graphics are decent but it won't match up to other titles on the PS3 or 360. That said, they aren't bad at all in my opinion. The game suffers from perhaps being a bit short but I had a lot of fun with it and I'm glad I picked it up. I easily got hooked and put down other titles to play through this game.

If you have a local place where you can rent games for a few days, then rent it... find it new or used for less than $20... why not? Will it outshine Heavenly Sword or God of War 3? HELL NO!
The review on Gamespot is pretty good take on the game IMO:

Hope this helps!

Yeah, the best thing about the PS3 is the blu-ray laser -- its fun to remove and use against your enemies.

I don't yet have a XBOX 360. I have the standard XBOX, which I paid a whole $15 for.

Well, admittedly that was probably the BEST way to get a bluray player... especially when the PS3's first came out! I just really don't think that Bluray was better than HD-DVD. Blurays are were more expensive to buy and more expensive to produce but not better. I haven't bought into either (which is good) but it's only a matter of time before I'm 'forced' to make a switch which I'm not happy about. The more I think about it, the more I'd be happy with a different sort of digital format... maybe on some sort of flash media or something.

If you have it for the GC, you can play it on the Wii as well. I think you just need to hook the GC controller into the right port on the Wii.

I actually got a PS2 about 2 or 3 years ago but didn't play much and didn't own many games (5 titles ... 2 of which were God of War and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance). I sold it and everything related to it earlier this year and that cash went towards a couple of 360 titles.

As for the original Xbox, I never owned one but came close a couple of times... they had a good lineup and the machine was impressive enough given it was their first console attempt.

With the 360's compatibility factor, I've tracked down three original xbox titles to enjoy on my machine so if you ever do get the newer xbox, you may still be able to play some of those games. They run through some form of emulation. It's not perfect (some games have their hiccups) but I haven't noticed any problems with the ones I've tried (these were Halo, Halo 2, and Fable).

As far as a Blu-Ray goes, I'll probably not get one until either the PS3 drops significantly, or the next incarnation of the Xbox console, which will probably have one. I like the library of games for the 360, the Marketplace has a lot of nice things in it (got Portal and the original Gauntlet through it), and the fact that a lot of old Xbox games are playable on the 360 make it nice (looking for a copy of Dungeons & Dragons Heroes and a couple of others).
