Castle Keepers Guide

Post by Troll Lord »

We did the first running play test on the ranger tracking rules that will appear in the CKG. As last night's game I presented a nice little chart and Davis and Mac scribbled notes, drew lines, marked out my notes and their own notes, redirected lines and then drew arrows to this that or the other. They handed me back this incomprehensible blob of scribble to run the playtest on.

My first question: "what does gland stand for?"

Davis: "that's sand"

My second question: "what does corn stand for?"

Mac: "that's rain"

Kinda like Steve's maps.

Steve: "Hey Pete, draw me this map and put in all the detail you do."

*sends a quickly done sheet made up of abstract lines that looks like it got stabbed repeatedly with a felt marker*
Add in visions of Pete pulling already depleted hair out with the phrase "Wtf is this?"

will the castles and crusades society be allowed to playtest this new material like they did when the game was being developed?

It's nice to see that playtesting is underway for Chinese Democracy. I mean the CKG.

What is this GKG you speak of?

Heh, I like to hear "CKG" and "playtest" in the same post!

Now c'mon... it only took 1.5 years to play test the Ranger. There are only about 10 more classes to go, so it should be out about... 2023 or so.

Now that's just too cruel. Unlike Duke Nukem Forever, which represents pretty much the entirety of everything 3DRealms / Apogee has ever done besides their side publishing, the Troll Lords are pumping out plenty of their own stuff. Plus, since we know they're actually bothering to playtest the CKG and make sure it's fun to use, we know that it won't turn out to be "Too Castles."

Don't worry - most of these guys are just having good fun here. It became "such a thing" because it Steve announced it several years ago and people like to rib him on it lol.

Heh....I remember pre-ordering the CKG via phone (from Poland no less) when the 1st printing of the PHB came out.

Yeah we're just ribbing Steve. In fact, 'Chinese Democracy'...oops, I mean the CKG is not really high on my list of wants. The new Haunted Highlands stuff and C&C Basic are higher.

Ya know the funny thing --

I really did just go back and look at the flyer in the bottom of the 1st "White Box" C&C collector release - and it has the "Coming Soon! The full and complete game!"

And it promotes the PhB and the M&T, and the list of future C&C products lists:

Collector's Box Set

PHB

M&T

CK Screen

Nostalgic Dice

The originally announced 8 parts of the planned Castle Zagyg, which at that time were:

I: Yggsburgh

II: Dark Chateau

III: Upper Works

IV: Beneath the Ground

V: The Labratories

VI: The Deeps

VII: The Caverns

VIII: Zagyg's Way

And 5 modules

Attack on Blacktooth Ridge

The Fell Axe

Shadows of Halfling Hall

Fingers of the Foresaken Hand

For the Streets of Bergaine

Hmm... no mention of a CKG in there.... yes, yes I know it got put out over Amazon and to distributors as "coming July 2005" a bit later.... but we can definitely say it was never intended or needed to "complete" C&C...

Reading what Steve posted about the new ranger tracking rules has me really excited about the release of the Keeper's Guide again. I almost forgot about it.

It was confirmed tonight in Society chat by Steve himself....

The letters CKG when put together, could possibly stand for Castle Keepers Guide.

Kick ass.
