Legend of the Seeker
Anyone watching this?
I am happily surprised. It has been very good so far. While it doesn't follow the books, the stories presented so far are very much in line with the spirit of them.
I think the writing of the characters is particularly accurate. And Zedd did impart the Wizard's First Rule, which I was happy to see.
It'll be far better on DVD, so I hope it gets that far.

Yep, I TiVo'd the first three and just watched them last night, it was a lot better than I expected. I think they really nailed the feel of the books very well (let's face it, there just isn't any way to really do an episodic TV series in neat 50 minute packages from the books.)

I totally agree. They need a "plot" for each episode, and a lot of the books are "road trips." Filler is definitely needed. The last episode was a great example of that, and it worked well.
D'harans are bastiches. I expect their nastiness will be somewhat sanitized for TV, so I'm tempering my expectations. I can't wait to see if they show Richard being captured by the red leather clad dominatrix clan, though. (Denna and the Mordsith - thanks for the reminder, Ragnar!) That was some of the best written material that really showed the transformative power of the Seeker.
Did you notice that Darken Rahl = Haldir in LotR? It took me a minute, but I figured it out.

They may skip the Mordsith stuff. It wouldn't surprise me. It'd be a shame, but that's pretty extreme stuff. Torture, brainwashing, humiliation. If they cover that, I'd be surprised.
My hope is that if they tackle it, they do it justice. They don't have to show the worst parts of it to get the point across.
A ham-handed attempt would be a shame and they should just skip it. I suppose we'll see how it goes.

I have been watching Legend of the Seeker, and while it's not a good show by any stretch of the imagination, it does fill the traditional fantasy television niche. And, LotS is better than most (if not all) Sci-FI channel schlock.
I'll keep watching though I have never read any of the books.

Re: Legend of the Seeker
Never heard of it. And even if I did, I guess its not playing on TV here.

That explains it. I don't get Wiggin' as I call it.

Just watched last weekend's TiVo'd episode, and you know, its pretty good. It has enough action in it to keep things moving, and its definitely several rungs above the Hercules/Xena acting.

Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.

From the Legend of the Seeker website, Episode #8 will be titled "Denna." Looks like they are going to address it in some form.
