Cool Gygax Christmas card...

Post by Treebore »

An ENWorld member posted a cool Christmas Card and also copied pasted a e-mail exchange with Gary that he had about who is who in the card.

Anyways, since we all love Gary, Tom Wham, etc.... I thought members here would enjoy checking it out too.

I don't know. Why? You should be able to read/look at it without being a member. I do it all the time from our College computers.

Nope, EN wants me to be a member to see it. Not interested in doing so. Oh well.

He uploaded it to a photobucket account. This particular card has been floating around for a while. Gary showed it off on DF a couple times.

That was me that posted the card.

Someone asked what year this card was posted. Gary never told me, but from what I can see, this was early Dragon, and while it's blurry and I can't tell from this scan, it has the Lizard Man Logo from TSR, so this was sent out some Christmas between 1975 and 1978, before the Wizard Logo was put into effect.

Technically, it's not a "Gygax card", it's Dave Trampier Art.

Tim Kask and Gary Gygax look too similar. I thought it was Gary holding the reins until he corrected me.

I didn't realize you had to log in to see attachments on ENWorld. I'll remember that next time.

Not sure. The parachute guy might be Frank Mentzer, to judge from the old photograph in Dragon magazine.

The cross-poster didn't get my whole quote.

The guy with the hat is Dave Trampier. Rob Kuntz is the guy with the Parachute.

Thank you for posting it here -- I hate ENWorld, for its unbearable slow load times.

That's a very cool card.

It makes me miss some of the comic art that TSR used to use - not everything has to be a serious work, blades drawn against grim death, to show imagination.

Always, for me. Even when I was at GM with their T1 lines, it would take like almost a minute to load, and that's just not serleran-friendly. That's why I rarely visit -- if it takes 1 minute just to load the homepage, it's going to take like a year to load the forums.

FYI--Tim Kask noted this on the Gygax Games forum.

Just a cautionary note : That art that you posted is owned by me, as all are rights to usage. Gary was the only other person that had permission to use it.

I have no problem with this usage for the Holidays; I have just shared it on another board.

He also posted a photo of the original he has, along with a contest, on Dragonsfoot.
