Gail Gygax gives holiday greetings over at Gygax Games

Post by dachda »

Gail gygax posted this holiday letter over at www.gygax-games.com/

thought you all might want to read it.

Holiday Greetings

December marks nine months since Gary passed. I miss him terribly my first Christmas since 1983 without him.

I want you all to know, Gary and I discussed his wishes for his works prior to his passing and I am following the road map he left for me. Many of you are unaware how close we were, I was devoted to him. In December of last year, when Gary showed signs of his last days, I remained by his side until he died.

You wont see me active on the internet boards, although I read most of them, as I try to remain in the background. I am very much in tune with your requests and desire to see all of his works published and, yes, there is more. Just because you do not hear anything of my plans does not mean nothing is happening. To that end, after Gary passed, I asked Spencer Wright and Jon Creffield to help me. They have given freely of their time, we should all thank them. I am grateful for their help. They are not advising me what to do, but helping to maintain the integrity of the IP and continue its development.

For nine months now, I have reached out to many leaders in our industry and outside our industry - around the world to make sure I handle Garys properties with great care and respect. Just very recently I finalized putting together a team of experts to advise me in regards Garys creative legacy.

So to all of you continuing with development, I want to especially thank you. Gary chose you carefully as he knew I would need your help when he passed. Thanks to all of you remaining on board and for your patience.

We can all be thankful to Spencer Wright and Jason Hurst for helping provide you the Gygax Games website - a place to discuss ideas and share your gaming experience. And isnt Erics logo great!

Gary would want us all to be kind to each other during this time of transition and especially kind to each other during this holiday season. After all, thats what his life was all about creating environments for the enjoyment of others

I plan to continue his mission.

Best wishes,

Gail Gygax

Cheers!!

He said that many times and meant it.

Cheers Gary!!!

And thanks for everything!

Cheers and best wishes, Gail!

To all . .

May the dragon be with you, always!

God bless us everyone.

So I wonder who the team of experts are? I feel better, I think, knowing that if they are "experts" they will ensure CZ comes out in a system playable in a system as close to the original game as possible, as that was Gary's desire. I still can't understand why JT would not be asked to be a part of this.

Actually, from what I remember (from his own posts), he was asked. However, the position he was offered was a 'lesser one'. I do not know what that means exactly but his role would be no where near as prominent as it was with the Upper Works. To be fair, it's not really any of our business either. But I simply hope we will see more work from JT down the line for C&C.

I do not doubt that some of the people asked would have worked with Gary in one way or another in the past and it is clear that Gail has the best intentions with the various projects they are working on.

Time will only tell what is in store for Zagyg's legacy.

A very nice sentiment.

I'm sure everyone would wish Gail and the Gygax children a happy holiday in return. The 1st Christmas after the loss of a loved one is always tough.

I hope their thoughts dwell on the love and laughter that that they shared with their husband/father/friend, rather than a sadness at their loss.

Bittersweet as that 1st Christmas is, I hope that they have the comfort of knowing that Gary is still with them in spirit, and always will be. I hope they all know that they are in the prayers and thoughts of all Gary's fans.

Peace,

Morty

My heart truly goes out to her. I remember the first Christmas I spent without some close family. It was hard and though each year gets better it's still never the same.

I lost my Mother in the early morning hours on December 26th, 2006. She had been battling cancer for almost a year. Her last month with us was one of deep saddness & trying times. I was with her when she passed, in her own home, in her own bed, which was her final wish. When I start to feel depressed around the holidays I try to remember one thing..... On my Mothers' last Christmas I shared the greatest gift of all with her. LOVE! God bless the Gygax family this holiday season, & for the rest of us, keep the faith.

I will say this. Gail and Gary seemed to have a great relationship and a great faith as well. That counts for a lot especially these days. I think that will help her more than anything. I know I will be saying a special prayer for her and the family this year.

And after reading this message from her I can say it puts some things to rest over the unfortunate controversy that has came up. I hope this goes for others as well.
