Good Sweet Caroline (that's with a long "i")

Post by Troll Lord »

Well, on Monday I sent Mortality of Green over to our new editor (Guy Landcaster, author of Queen of Purgatory, published by Chenault and Gray). He sent it back today with lots of notes.

Here is an small piece of his email:

"As you don't yet have a formal style guide, I've done my best to standardize things, though the nature of this work means that some inconsistencies are built in. For example, you go back and forth between spelling out a number and just using the number in the text. I made a point of spelling out the numbers, except for those used in a technical fashion. I hope that's okay.

You will notice that, occassionally, I have deleted a hyphen and put in a longer dash, which called an en dash. En dashes are a little bit longer than hyphens and are used primarily for rendering a range of numbers: e.g., "two to four" becomes "2-4." (With an en dash, which, as I'm using my e-mail from home, isn't going to show up on this message. But you get one by pressing "ctrl" and the minus sign over on the number pad on the left.) It's a change which few will notice, but it is a proper change."

So far as editors are concerned, I feel as if we are in safe hands. I'm meeting with him on Monday next to work up the style guide.

Thought you might want to know.

Steve
