I just picked up my Castellan's Guide and I really have to say: Excellent work Mike! Some well done research in there with interesting tidbits on the various types of equipment included along with balanced stats for our favorite Fantasy Roleplaying system, C&C. A very good addition to the C&C lineup. Excellent artwork, although much of it will be familiar to those of us with the other TLG books.

Speaking of A5 and CGAaA, I picked up both of them today, in an order to the Trolls. I was really tempted to get Towers of Adventure and AWD, too, but I need some money to eat with until next payday.

I just got my copy in the mail. It's an excellent resource for any FRPG on dark age and early medieval equipment, and will nicely complement my books for The Riddle of Steel.

I went to my local gaming store (150 miles round trip) but they didn't have it.
I guess I'll have to order it. The preview in Crusader has me excited about it.

Well, sir, it is pretty fantastic, nonetheless. Mine came in today and I've been pouring over the goodness therein (A5 came in, too, but I've been busy with Arms and Armor so far).

I was just checking the preview over at rpgnow, and this is a must have for me. I will be able to scrap my lousy (and disliked) houserule attempt to mimic the 1e weapon to hit modifiers.

That's frustrating. IMHO, it should be available in stores at least by the time it comes in the mail. It's STILL not available for my game store to get from the distributor. That's sure not helping those who want to support their local game store.
My store manager told me he found out the release date is February 2nd. So, I guess look for this book in your favorite game store the 3rd or 4th.

Yes, it has rule variations for specific effects as pertains to the historical use of said piece of equipment. For the most part, they are relatively minor adjustments, like a +1 against mailed armor.

Can't go wrong with a book with a "poofy shirt"! No, really, it has rules for why silk shirts are cool, and I do mean that seriously.

I really enjoy the book, lots of fluff around the weapons, and like Serl said, there are rule variations, along with those cool descriptions.

Since the thread's already here, thought I'd ask...

1.) So a Spatha does 1d8+1 (pg. 16), with an additional +1 when used by a mounted warrior. Just making sure that +1 in the text under "Intent" didn't get accidently added to a standard 1d8.

2.) Had to read carefully, but according to the text on page 4, there is a functional difference between a Birnie and a Byrnie.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this one because of the similar spellings, and thus, pronunciations (I assume). When I search online, Birnie/Byrnie seem to be the same thing.

What gives? Is there any chance this is a misprint or "artistic license"?
