The thing i liked most about the RC was that you had the complete system in one book. Proving the three book system could be bypassed.

The one we have here could probably be sold to you... but it is a little beat up.

Well, you could take a few pics of it, and PM them to me. And beat up is okay, if the price reflects it.

I agree, to a point. As the DM I like having everything in one book, for myself, but I always thought there should be a seperate book just for the players. As the DM I don't like the players having all the monster/treasure info.

Yeah, kinda annoying when you're rolling for treasure, if you don't do it ahead, and they can see the results and start looking... "ooh, leather armor... plus +4, with flying! Sweet, I'm so into that. My thief just got awesome!" Of course, some games don't care about that sort of thing. Others do.

In my experience most players don't even own the books. Sure later on a few will get them. And what is the difference between owning the one book needed and owning all three? I used to play in a game that was all DM's and all owned the needed books. No one went for their DMG or monster manual while playing then.

True, but it's a lot easier to do with the RC and a game of Basic than it is with the seperate books of AD&D. But players not owning the book would allow the DM to breather a little easier, I'd imagine.

I have found you will have players who own and know everything whether you want them to or not, and you'll have players who just want to play, or you'll have DM/players who know what they have to know, and try not to use it in game. Or do use it in game.

In other words, just run your game, it will be played however its going to be played.

Agreed. I once had a player, while not accessing the books during session, would thoroughly research the items and come back next session armed with the full knowledge of the items (once he had identified it...back in 2nd Edition). It bothered me for a while, but then I figured he, for whatever reason, enjoyed this sort of activity so I let it go. I figured that it would be better to let it not bother me and let the guy satisfy whatever need he was filling.

But run your game , as Tree stated, and have fun is what matters.

Treebore is spot on. When players enjoy the nuts and bolts of a game, most of the time they will read over the CK only material found in the M&T anyways.

When the hint was dropped recently that TLG might do a combo PHB/M&T, that information was extremely welcome. I think many people would love to see a combo book, though everybody might not have a use for one.

We'll see.

RC is the best gaming book ever published. Running and playing the game was so simple. It makes planning games now seem like I am taking a calculus test.

Personally, I would go from being on the fence about C&C to full blown love if they published an RC style book for C&C. One game, One book, Bam all done.
