Valentine's Loot

Post by serleran »

So, my wife asked if we could go shopping yesterday, and with it being Valentine's Day, I figure, umm, OK? and then prepare the wallet for some "Biggest Loser" weight loss routine. We go to FYE which is a reseller of games, DVDs, CD, books and the like, a sort of discount media center. Walking around, I see a few things I would like, and nothing for her, but, then she leaves... just walks away to some other part of the store and I'm left to twiddle my fingers while looking in the horror section -- I was disappointed to not find Saturday the 14th which would help my camp horror collection. Anyway, after I finally find her, she's gone through checkout, and has a little bag of stuff, so I say, OK, I'll get something for you too but she basically says no, I've gotten her too much already (which I had, but I'm not going to admit that to her). And then we're sitting in the car, and she hands me the bag. I open it, and therein is some goodness:
The Fantastic Films of Ray Harryhausen: Legendary Monster Series which contains:
Jason and the Argonauts

The 7th Voyage of Sinbad

Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad

The 3 Worlds of Gulliver

Anyone else get pleasantly surprised?

Oh, this was really nothing to do with Valentine's Day, per se -- it just happened to occur on the same day. Since the wedding, this was the first Saturday we actually had to spend together, for more than 5-6 hours, as neither of us had to work, so we decided to celebrate that... not the Hallmark moment so typical of societal demands.

Thats' cool Serl, I'm glad to hear you actually not only got a day off but got to spend it with your wife as well.

Score!

The movies make it a double socre. Those are some good flicks.

As for the Valentine day, my wife just knows I'm a "I say I love you with a roof over your head and groceries" kind of guy. Works for me.

My wife worked last night, and we're not really into the whole commercial deal. BUT I did get the same Ray Harryhausen DVD set for Christmas. Great deal there!

Valentine's Day is my Anniversary.

My wife bought me lap-dances.

Like DD, the wife and I will not participate in consumerism aspect of Valentines Day. However, I did spend the day with the wife and we shared and excellent day together. Homemade pizza, wine and copius amounts of TALISMAN!!!

Now that's my kind of Valentines Day.

Valentines was awesome for me.
My lady bought me Persona 4 and an FM transmitter for my iPod.
(this is after I bought her a ring, of course)

Good times.

I got an outfit. Pair of shorts and a shirt. And a day with my wife and kids, so it was pretty good, IMHO.

I actually kind of dig Valentine's Day. It's an excuse to hand out some goodies and a little romance with the wife.

I got a nice bath robe, a laptop fan, and an eBay card (that last being my favorite... time for some gaming goods!).

I got the first of the Del Rey Conan books, a Cthulhu 5.6.1 hardback, another book on a fast that I want to try for Lent and $60 Chaos Bucks set aside for the next 30%-off sale that Chaosium has on their website (hopefully Beyond the Mountains of Madness will still be there).

I'm not one to get all excited about Valentine's day, but I'm all up for any opportunity to get some good reading material.

She was insistent on getting me something and I wound up with some DVDs:

- Elizabeth: The Golden Age

- The Blade Trilogy

- My Name is Bruce

We watched 'My Names is Bruce' much to her regret that night. She doesn't 'get' the Bruce Campbell / B-Movie factor.

I didn't even get a card from my wife this year.
I did get her one though ..... and me and the kids had fun on Saturday, after our soccer games, we had a marathon Yu-Gi-Oh tournament with a bunch of their friends.
