I was Amazon.com when I saw this:
A Lion in the Ropes & After Winter's Dark CD Rom

Is this a legitimate product? Just looking out for the folks at TLG.

Hmm, I think TLG did indeed release (or give away at CONs) a CD that contained one or more of those early modules.

Yeah I think there were a few d20 modules available.

I've seen Lion in the Ropes and Malady of Kings.

Kewl... I just wouldn't want people screwing with the Troll Lords.

It is legitimate. I recall there being 4-5 such products. They all came with the AWD pre-d20 / pre-Codex of Erde folio as well. At the time, it was a novel idea.

I don't have any myself but I've seen them around (mostly online retailers) at one point or another. Noble Knight Games has had them in the past (don't know if they still do).

It was one of my little side projects at the time. Idid the first round of them in-house, burning the CDs and packaging them in flimsy mailers with print as you go labels for covers. I believe we did Lion in the Ropes, Fantastic Adventure, Vakhund, and Mortality of Green, all d20, with the AWD setting included, along with a few previews and ads, and the AWD map.

The best produced was Malady of Kings, which we had a company in NYC burn to disc, format, and package in jewel cases that were shrinkwrapped. By that time, the retailer response to the first produced set was not great, so orders fell off.

All in all, I think we about broke even, had a minor loss on the project which, IMO, was a bit ahead of its time. This was pre-RPG Now days.

These were indeed Mac babies and they actually did well but we found that retailers had no display set for them so they didn't restock them. Had we launched them with a small display case, a thing we do now for the C&C line, then they probably would have done much better and not been returned as much.

Interestingly, keeping in mind this was 2000 and 2001 I believe, he planned to do a massive linking throughout, whereby if you had a question on say Nulak Kiz Din, you could hit the link and open windows on that knuckle dragger. It would have been pretty cool, but restocks never justified the expense.

Ah, if we knew then what we knew now we would all have gone Amish!

You know that would still be a good idea. Especially with Airdhe. An encyclopedia type disc with all the lore cross referenced. It would be something I'd buy for any setting.

I agree... imagine the something as detailed like the codex instantly 'cross-linkable'. Of course, even if worked on from the ground up, this sort of project is a MASSIVE undertaking. I've seen the development of a couple of encyclopedia-type books that have bolded names and terms which reference to entries for those and that alone can be a SERIOUS pain!

Indeed. Add in info from the Codex and I'm good.
