Troll Lord Games

Inspired by this Gary Gyxax tribute blog post, I just wanted to say thanks to Steven, Davis, Mac and everyone else for creating Castles and Crusades. You've re-ignited me and my group's passion for RPGs after getting burned out on 3rd Edition. May C&C have a long and glorious run! [/url]

No doubt! I also consider every game we all play in a tribute to Gary. After all, to him its about people coming together and having a good time. Every time we do that with a RPG game, D&D or not, we are doing what Gary wanted us to get out of "his" games.

So thanks to teh Trolls for working with Gary and giving us even more.

Wierd isn't it? My gaming hasn't been as fun as it has been with C&C since my early days of learning to play D&D. I even almost consider it a fact that I have finally discovered the perfect RPG for me. I really, honestly, do not foresee anything better coming along.

That's exactly the experience I've had. I had a great time playing 2nd ed back in the day, and I liked 3rd for as far as it went, but there's something about C&C that hearkens back to a simpler and more improvisational style of gaming -- for instance, I actually have my players taking along small hammers and 10-foot-poles because they realized they can't rely on spot checks to find those pesky pit traps

Yes! Kayolan has been running a Mystara game, and we have been using 10 foot poles, caltrops, hammers, etc... and USING them! Its been great!

Pathfinder RPG may not be my RPG of choice, but that still doesn't stop me from being a newly renewed PF subscriber. That is part of what makes C&C so awesome. Its also what makes C&C such a pain to my wallet.

Pathfinder is indeed a worthy subscription. I was with a little bit of agony that I cancelled my subscription, not because of quality but because I'm focusing on products in systems I actually use. If I widen up my purchasing again, PF will definitely be on the list.

But yeah. TLG rocks out loud. Crank it up and let the d20 roll.

Thank you to the Trolls! C&C is a great way to bridge the good old editions with OGL publications. It's fun to play, quick and easily adapted to the needs of the gamers involved. In other words... C&C = WIN.

I'm a Pathfinder subscriber as well, by the way! I love the Adventure Paths!

Oh, the traits stuff is great! If I pick up C&C, I will find a way to implement them......

Well, after the announcement of 4e I was totally turned off of D&D. Even the 3.5 game I was running had lost its edge for some reason. I had no problem playing a soon-to-be-dead system, but maybe the announcement had put things into perspective. I began to take a good look at thwa tI was playing and for some reason, after playing 3.x for 8 years I was tired.

Then I found C&C (actually "re-found" as I had bought the PHB a year before). The game reawakened my imagination and reminded me of the wonderful times I had when I was just starting out. It took some good elements of d20, added a heaping helping of nostalgia and served it up in a nice, tight system. I loved it. It was just what I had been looking for - something light, fun, and allowed me to rely upon my imagination again.

Thanks Troll Lords, for allowing me to rediscover my imagination.

Hell... I can't stop picking up the C&C corebooks. I've lost count how many I've bought on the behalf of others but I'm down to 3 PHBs and 2 M&Ts on my shelf right now. I'll be buying another set when the new printings are out.

I'm in total agreement with the rest of you. I did some basic D&D and AD&D, 2nd, and the rest. That said, my curiosity was piqued when I met Stephen Chenault and Todd Gray at con in 2003. That's when I got my first look at Castles and Crusades. My first game was with Todd. He did a fantastic job with the adventure. He painted a visual landscape, and thoroughly described all of the action(instead of just saying you lost 2 hit points or whatever). Of course, you couldn't help but notice that the system used the best things from D20, but removed the clunk from previous editions. I was hooked, even though my friends and I continued to play 3.5 up through 2004. By that time, I had become more aware of Savage Worlds(by the creator or Deadlands). I slowly but surely got people interested in that system, and occasionally worked C&C into the mix, and I'm continuing to do so. But, I digress. Each year I got a chance to play C&C(at cons) with Todd, Peter Bradley, and some of the fan boys. And, I kept buying the sh!t out of TLG's product line. TLG is to be commended for their most excellent product. As long as TLG(and Pinnacle Entertainment) stay in business, it's highly unlikely I'll seek out too many other systems. Well, I still cherry pick products like Firefly, BSG, the upcoming Doctor WHo, Shadowrun, Star Wars, etc.

I'll say "thanks" as well. It only took one game of C&C to hook me. As has been said before, it takes what is good about d20 and what is good about 1e AD&D and turns it into a hell of a game.

Whenever, I wrap up my 3.5 campaign, it will be C&C from there on out...
