I like quite a few, but lately I've been on a Jaws kick. Man those flicks are good...

They're decent, but I don't consider them horror. But, then, I am picky.

This is some can of worms you're about to open, slimy, if this is meant as an open discussion...'cause I'm kinda partial to this one:

I choose the "Legend of Boggy Creek" because it is set in Fouke, Arkansas:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068837/

It is supposedly based on a true story that took place in 1971. Maybe the legendary "Monster of Fouke" is a troll!

Awesome! That movie was kind of a big deal here in Arkansas. I was just a kid, but my mom, aunt and a few cousins went to the drive-in to see this. There is a scene with some guy using an outhouse and the monster comes up and BAM! I pooped myself much like the lad on the screen.

Personally, though, my favorite horror movie is "Fright Night".

I know this might be heresy by some, but I thought the "Dawn of the Dead" remake was fantastic.

A lot of people will hate this answer, but I'm torn between two flicks for best horror movie. It's either the American remake of The Ring, or Blair Witch Project. Both films did something in American films that had not been seen either ever, or not in a very, very long time. There's a lot to say about many horror films, and personal preference plays a large part.

I'll give that to ya Omote. For me, most horror movies don't do it , they fail to get me hyped. The Ring was definitely one that I cut for though.

I didn't care for The Ring (the concept was just too bizarre for me), but I'm on board with the Blair Witch Project. I thought that was pretty damn good.

Just thinking that I might have a daughter someday made that movie terrifying.

I'd give the nod for best horror movie to either "The Exorcist" or "Poltergeist."

That wasn't horror. That was poorly made slapstick b movie comedy.
It was so bad, in fact, that the Bare Wench Project was an improvement. And that movie was terrible.

I was going to say Nightmare on Elm Street, but I do think the first Alien movie had me just a little more freaked out.

I saw this in the theatres, no one laughed. Screamed, yes. Laugh, no.

John Carpenter's The Thing still does it for me. Even the video game makes me nervous playing it.....

*chuckles* Horror movies don't scare me. Its all the same plot. Dumb people doing the same dumb things that are only going to get them killed. At least the Scream movies, comedy gold that they are, were honest about it.

Course, the only reason the 6th Sense made me a bit uneasy was that it was a bit too close to reality for comfort.

One of the reasons that Blair Witch Project is, IMO, one of, if not the best horor movie, is the make of the film. When this movie was released, the US film market had not seen a good old fashioned scary movie in decades. Through the 80s and the better part of the 90s, horror movies were typified with bloody massacres and psychopathic slashers. This passed as horror. Perhaps it is, but Blair Witch Project presented something not seen in a long time, the fact there were dumb kids running around in the woods, getting lost, with ghost or poltergeist stuff happening. BWP had very little blood, and nothing but a chilling background story to set the tone. Yes, the acting was bad. The direction was amatuer (because it was), and the technical aspects not crisp. If Hollywood filmmakers at the time had the guts and insight to create a film like BWP on their own, perhaps in your mind this movie would be better. But as I see it, it took the creative genius and filmmaking spirit of amatuers to bring an amazing vision to the big screen.

*chuckles* I doubt it. Dumb people doing dumb things just makes me want to shake my head. That movie was full of nothing but foolish people with no common sense. If your going to go look for goblins, go armed for dragons.

I could not stand Blair Witch. Scary? No. Not even close. A cause to put me in anger management? Yep, absolutely. It is a borefest. Blair Witch 2 is better. And sequels normally always suck.

That being the case, I assume you shake your head at most everything in the world than?

Yeah, they're dumb kids in the movie, and some things they do are just plain idiotic. People do idiotic things in real life too.

No offense, but the scariest thing in Blair Witch was the close-up "booger shots".
