Well, needless to say, it was a fantastic event and a great weekend. Im thankful for the opportunity to attend. Great to see all the TLG and DF regulars and meet a few more.
Thanks to Luke Gygax for mentioning in another thread about Mike Carr attending. I signed up for his game of FITS (Fighters in the Sky also know as Dawn Patrol). Fabulous, fabulous game!! Hes been running it at every single GenCON!!
Mike was our squadron leader and Luke, myself and buttmonkey were wings. We were the Germans and we totally kicked ass and blew the Americans (Paul Stormberg, Blake, Kevin and Whitney) out of the sky.
In the second game, it was just Mike and myself against Blake, Kevin and another guy. They were Brits and we were Germans again. This time, my Pfalz D III (see cover of FITS) was tailed repeatedly and my tail got shot up real bad.
After stalling, looping, barrel rolling and one other maneuver, I couldnt shake the pursuit and took like 11 hits to the tail section and ultimately my plan exploded and I failed my fall save. DOA!!!
Mike is a very nice, friendly and intelligent fellow. And I thank him for signing my copy of B1 In Search of the Unknown which I got in 1978 in my BD&D Holmes Box!!
Other thoughts . . .
Lots of great custom T-shirts including Franks DF shirt, KR Bougouines shirt, Chris Clarks cool shirt and the CON shirts that Luke made available (I got one and its very cool).
I was glad to play some Adventurer with KR and Chris Clark and then we played KRs new game LINKZ which is totally great!
And on Sunday, I had the great pleasure to play in Tim Kasks OD&D game ~ with Tim presenting an original module for GaryCON called Tower of the Mad Wizard. The players included Jeffery St. Clair, francisca, Doug from RPGBomb and some other great gamers. This was a fantastically rockin game that was old school to the MAX (heh, how could it not be that with Tim as DM. Sheesh, Tim could run 4E and we could be fairy princesses preparing for a ball and it would still be old school!!).
I will have to create another thread just to talk about this game . . . Ill only say this, my 8th lve halfling fighter was able to acquire and wield a giant troll mace (cause he had a good strength ability and was wearing a girdle of giant strength!!).
I do believe Tim is going to post a summary of his games and I direct peeps to check out his DF Q&A thread soon.
Pics to follow (and perhaps more commentary, as I think of stuff).
[Thanks for everything, Gary]
