Bittersweet

Post by DangerDwarf »

Since my hospitalization and release I've been on a fairly restrictive diet consisting largely of soup, pudding, maybe a few crackers and other items that would be easy for my recuperating system to digest and get it geared up for some real food.

Well, tonight I got to have my first substantial meal for supper.

Boiled chicken, plain rice and a little bit of corn. Yeah, I know it sounds bland but considering what I have been eating this was a veritable feast! I swear it was the best friggin' meal I ever had. It felt so good to eat something with some substance.

At least it did at first.

Now I'm just miserable. It hurts and hurts badly. My damn digestive track got lazy after it shut down and seemingly has no idea what to do. Ah well, gotta get back on the horse someday, might as well be today.

That was a damn good supper.

Soup and pudding, eh? That's falling on hard times my friend. I remember, some years back, whilst living alone with my trusted dog, that she took ill with some kind of stomach problem...might have been tape worms, I can't remember now. But I had to put her on a diet of rice and boiled chicken necks (you can buy them at a butcher, boil the flesh off the neck bones and you get a fatty soup like mixture). I was rather poor in those days, and Lady got sick about the time the hamburger joint I was working at had cut off the food we could take home at night. So every night I would sit down and eat boiled chicken necks and rice with my dog.

Ahhh Good times!

But best wishes and hope you recover quickly!!!

Thanks fer the well wishes. Things are going good, just a little frustrating right now (I blame the hunger!). My only real concern is that I'm supposed to be travelling to Illinois this upcoming weekend, I just hope the Doc is on the same page as I am on this one.

That digestive track of your will get going again. I've seen that happen dozens of time with church members after surgeries and such.

Where you headed in Illinois?

Munch on lots of pudding and ice cream. Its good stuff, and likely to not be allowed to you after you're better... so, eat it all up while you can!

Quad Cities, Moline more specifically. Despite my smack talk, I'm truly a transplanted Texan. Other than my parents and sister, all of our family is in the Quad City area.

Best wishes again for a speedy recovery DD.

At least I can eat real food. I just can't have coffee, tea, or cola type sodas, which are my favorite beverages, besides beer, which I can't have yet either.

I am really missing my coffee.

Hell yeah it is.

I'm allowed coffee so that is a friggin blessing. Just no carbonation. I tried to tell my wife I could just let my beer go flat first. She disagreed.

Let it go flat then put some stomach settling Alkiseltzer in it. Wakes the fizz up again and its good for ya.

Or. Try this one. Since Mead is made out of fermented honey, its actually protein and is good for you.

Not to steal DD's thunder, but why not Aladar? Everything okay?

(If it's something you'd rather not discuss, that's cool).

As long as it fixes whatever the problem is, it's better than the alternative DD (eating pudding for eternity can't be good, no matter what Bill Cosby says). Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

PS Bourbon has no carbonation!

Lord Dynel,

Nothing too serious. I just had a very large kidney stone and was passing a lot of blood. They had to go in a bust up the stone and put a stint in. They also found and removed a couple of polyps in my bladder while they were looking that they thought might be cancerous, but the biopsy came back negative on those.

Now I am just on a restricted beverages until they can determine what caused the stone.

Thanks DD.

I'm actually up and around now, back to work, and back on my soccer and softball coaching duties in the evening. Still a little soreness every once in a while, but well on the mend.

Still missing my coffee though.

Good deal there. Looking like I'll be off work until sometime in April which is grating at me. All this time sitting around sucks.

Make you a deal though, I'll drink some coffee for you if you eat some burgers for me.
