So, I recall somewhere (mebbe DF) someone posted a pic of their office/computer room where they sit when online. I thought I'd take a few pics of my secret control room in the North Tower of Castle Frankfort.

Here goes ~

Moi:

Computer screen (yes, that's the famous Sir Winston . . noble cat owned by Jaybird):

Desk:

I always feel like somebody's watching meeeeee . . .

Somewhere between this:

and this is how the west wall looks (one w/flash & one wo):

Closet 1:

Closet 2:

OK, enough of me . . . feel free to post your pics of you on the computer posting away and causing trouble here at the TLG forums!!!

You only think you're in control. You're not.

Furby is.

And you have far too many icons on your desktop.

Yes, too much RPG related stuff being downloaded and that number of icons is after a recent clean up.

[There is another Furby around here somewhere, but no one can find him. ]

Cool! I am running MandrivaLinux 2009.0, using KDE 4.1 for my desktop environment.

That pic I got searching Drow sites across the 'Net. I forgot ecxactly where, but you can find it if you google "Drow."

I keep on thinking of taking a Linux-like plunge but I find my base of knowledge inadequate.

I guess for me, Windows is just the devil I happen to know.

I'll post some pics later...

If my desk were clean, I might consider snapping a shot, but I think I'll stay away from this one, though there have been snippets of it in some of the images of my collection.

Uh, Rhu? Are you really silly enough to download stuff directly to your desktop? It's a good way to have an infected file take control (from Furby) of your machine. I always create an Archive folder in the root, then direct the browser to download files there. When it gets full (enough), I either zip up all those files and store them elsewhere, or create an "Archve Backup dd/mm/yy" folder, move 'em there, then store it elsewhere (usually on the external hdd.) It may not be terribly efficient, but it works for me.

Hehe, I am silly, everyone knows that. But not so when it comes to computing.

After 27 years of home and business personal computers along with network, database, security and mainframe experience . . my PCs and network have never been compromised.

A few attempts - thwarted easily. I'm very vigilant and have a sixth sense about what might be dangerous and of course, various types of security software back me up:

2 malware/adware watch programs

Network and PC firewalls

Registry cleaners

Security task managers

Anti-virus

Rhu, Sir Winston will be pleased when I tell him about your wallpaper. I'll take some pics of my computer desk area tonight, and we'll see if Winston feels like posing. That's usually an affirmative - he knows he's a sexy beast.

In the meantime, here's a pic of me last night during our Sunday SKYPE game.

Long story short: I dont like my feet running across bare floor/carpet, so I wear those as house slippers. You should really be focused on my boots, because that's what I'm going to kick Tullis' booth over with.

We have similar experience(s), then, though mine are all due to fiddling with toasters (30 years this November) being a hobby and interest, rather than as a career. In all the time I've been using DOS/Windows PCs (since 1989; I started out with an Apple ][ Plus, graduating to a

//e, and later to a ][gs), I've managed to attract precisely one downloader virus, which AVG stomped on.

My setup is much simpler, with Vista (Ultimate 64-bit) providing the software firewall/adware protection, AVG for a/v, and the router (Linksys WRT54G) doing the hardware firewall work. Opera is my browser of choice, with Firefox 3 being the backup (for those rare sites that Opera doesn't parse correctly.) (I prefer Opera's bookmark and password handling to Firefox's.)

My use of a dedicated, easy to navigate download folder dates back 25 years or so, and a related unpacking/unZipping folder (Zdir) goes along with it. And my file manager of choice used to be PowerDesk, but the previous version (6) wasn't completely Vista-compatible, so I switched to Directory Opus 9. More costly, but it came with a lifetime upgrade. (About a year after I switched to DO, PD7 became available. Too late!) I still use PD6 on my XP Home-powered notebook. That will probably change when I finally replace the latter in a year or so. (It uses ZoneAlarm and the router for firewall, Windows Defender for adware, and AVG for a/v.)

I wear leather moccasins for that. I just found the croc's amusing since my wife owns a pair just like that.

Finally, the POV from maptools and SKYPE:
"IF THERE'S ANY GIRLS THERE I WANT TO DO THEM!!!"

BTW, those wireless headphones are awesome. I can get up and freshen my drink without missing a word. The shirt is usually optional.
