Wisconsin in March? No thanks. I live in Canada, so I know a thing or two about winter.
Much as I lament the loss of Gary, and understand why you'd like to keep the con as a memorial, I just can't see it being a pleasant trip at that time of year.
Besides, do you really want to celebrate his death? Why not his life?
Gary's birthday was in June, within a day or two of the LGGC. I remember bringing him a birthday gift at LGGC #1.

Come on, Greg! It's further south - it's got to be warmer??!!
Yeah, it's a bummer that LGGC is gone for now, I will miss it and all the friends (old and new) that I was able to meet and make. One can only hope that it makes a glorious return in the future!

I've gotta admit, I'm not all that fussy as to timing. If I'm making the trip I'm there to game and am not all that worried about weather conditions.
And Greg, you ought to come on up the Thunder Bay one winter so you can see just lucky you are down in Toronto . . .

We've been enjoying 40s and 50s pretty much all month (5 to 10 degrees for you metric types.) March has been fine. A bit rainy, but fine.

Bah, Toronto is a little north of Milwaukee - get your ass to the next GaryCON!
Besides, the CON was a complete celebration of Gary's life and most importantly it's what/when his children want.
The complaints should be directed at Steve!!! We want the LGGC!!!
[Gary's b-day was at the end of July methinks]

It's all too far for me but the LGGC was at least a bit closer.
I'll end up at a future Troll Con I imagine... perhaps a future Gary Con. I suppose I have to add Gencon to the list seeing I haven't been to one yet either.
However, I'd much prefer going to a smaller con like Troll Con and have a chance to meet a bunch of my fellow Crusaders that frequent these boards.

You're kidding, right?
Steve needs a business reason to run a con. There's a lot of money at stake, time spent and busy work to do in arranging and promoting and staffing, risk of loss of investment, etc.
With all of his licenses to publish Gygax product stripped away - first LA, then the Fantasy Series and the Castle - he's got nothing left to promote.
I don't blame Steve for the demise of the LGGC; not even a little bit.

True dat, to a certain extent. But the other, pragmatic side, is this. The area cannot support two conventions, which are essentially about the same thing, so close together. One event is going to bleed off the attendee numbers of the other event.
Happens everywhere one tries to put on similar themed conventions at too close dates.

That's why the two together would be more beneficial, cut down on the overhead costs. Yeah, having those lines taken away does make it just a wee bit awkward to say the least.

Yep, totally kidding. I should have thrown a winking smilie out there.
But I'm not kidding about you going to the next GaryCON and hopefully the Trolls will be there as well!

LOL!
Heh, if I could afford to go to Troll CON, I'd drive down and pick up you and Mr. Reaper on the way.
And then we would go to Kim's house and stay there. We'd all sleep in his bed along with his dog!!
Woof, woof!!
Of course, Kim would have to feed us and supply lots of beer, but I'm sure he'd more than welcome the chance to have such fine fellows at his castle, no?
[Mebbe, next year for Troll CON!]

Hey Kim, I just checked the Troll Con site. Did they make you an official Troll after Gencon? I had no idea you were a man of rank.
I had to empty out half-full, room temperature Dr. Pepper cans from Steve's house for six months to get that title I'll have you know... Also, I'm proud to say that I will never become some corporate shill for anyone.
Having said that, have you seen the new Dungeon Mapping Sheets? This is the perfect resource for every would-be dungeoneer. 100 pages (50 sheets) of square graph paper to map any dungeon adventure. Each sheet is double sided with a hand key for common features. Each bundle is shrink wrapped and each sheet comes with the key printed in the bottom cetner, out of the way but still useful. These Dungeon Mapping Sheets (Square) is the first step in the long road for TLG to become your one stop gaming shop. In the future look for the Outdoor Mapping Sheets (Hex).

Wow! Dad lied to me all these years! I always celebrated his birthday on July 27th.
I appreciate your perspective, but my siblings and I will memorialize my father in our own way. You can read the next KODT for an interview where I discuss this with Barb Blackburn. which reminds me that I should get a Con Blog to Steve for the Crusader!

Quite right - my mistake.
I had the LGGC #1 stuck in my head - July 29-31, 2005.
It wasn't until later (#2 or #3) that the con got moved up to June.
Of course you will; as you should.
I have very fond memories of your dad. He was a very warm and generous man; extremely supportive and encouraging, and always willing to spare a moment for a chat or to offer advice on a project. I feel genuinely privileged that I had the opportunity to spend some happy times with him and to produce some material for LA under his supervision. The world doesn't feel quite the same since he left us.
One thing that consistently stuck me - Gary put the fans first. He was always ready to drop whatever he was doing to answer yet another fan question, or to whip up something off the cuff to meet some gamer's special need. He brought that customer-focussed attitude to everything he did. I wish there were more like him.

Trollzah!
Thanks all,
Steve
Course, Pete can add that its the second time this evening that he finds himself in complete accord with Greg Ellis.
