We have a name for the garish red version:

"The McDonalds printing"

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Peter - do you know if they're going back to the non-glossy paper?

Its going to be some sort of smooth finish laser paper, so the book will likely be as thick as the 2nd printing is, and hopefully show up the grey tones inherent in the pictures and tables better.

Hey folks,

We've made some adjustments to the new printing's cover, the title logo mainly. But its at press now and I should have some blue lines in hand before the week is up and let you know how the red played. In the meantime I"ll get the final cover copy up on the website in the next few days.

As for several editions, with multiple covers, this is just not possible on a mass quantity. But we can do a number of things and are going to do them as the year unfolds.

1) We will bring back the personalized editions. We'll get this better organized and with more accurate cover plates done so we can see what it looks like. But laying these covers out logically does take a little time and I'm not going to divert any resources to it until the CKG is finished.

2) Perfect bound editions of all the new printings will be in the offering. We tightly control costs on these so we can special order them with no additional charge. We have no problem doing up a limited number for you folks who want to keep the earlier covers.

We can set up some kind of program with lulu or other 3rd party short run printers. The problem there is that it can greatly erode the retailer end of the business as people might be inclined to skip their local shops. So that we won't do.

I'll nudge Webmaster Bryan to get the new cover up tonight.

Thanks,

Steve

I'm glad that those who really prefer the old scheme will have options. But I'm even more glad to see the statement about the CKG and what it implies about the planning and thought behind the Troll's campaign to C&C world domination this year.

Steve,

Will the new printings end up on RPGNow as pdfs at some point, as they are currently. I prefer to keep a hardback pristine on the shelf, and use a spiral bound printed out pdf while playing (so I can feel free to write in my notes and it takes up less space on the table, while folded back over itself).

Thanks.

I'm just looking forward to the new printings, to see what has been done. The C&C section needs a little color in it, so the red has not dissuaded me too terribly, though it was an initial "ummm" when I saw it -- have gotten beyond it and no longer really care as I know, basically, what will be inside.
