Troll Lord Games

Internet Explorer 8 came out this week, but you have to go to the Microsoft website to get it. (Apparently, offering it as an automatic update is some kind of anti-trust violation )

I was just wondering if anyone else decided to upgrade yet, and what your opinion was. So far, I haven't had a single browser crash since the upgrade. (That alone is a vast improvement over IE 7). Best news ever: The anonymous "In-private" browsing option.

Firefox with the AdBlock Plus Add-On is my browser of choice.

I use IE8 at work sometimes... only because I have to... and found that some websites don't work well in the new browser. There is an IE7 compatibility mode, but I hate having extra steps just to properly view or use a webpage.

Yep, board members here are who got me to try out Firefox about 2 years ago. After a week of adjusting to the new layout I haven't even considered going back to IE.

I've been running IE8 along with the beta for Windows 7 and have yet to have ai problem with it. One thing that I've yet to really get the hang of is "web slices". Ebay is now supporting this technology (coding?) so it might turn out to be the next great thing for browsers.

There is one really good reason to upgrade to IE8 even if you use firefox (like I do). The new Trojan that affects Adobe Acrobat only works on a machine that uses IE7 and Windows XP. Vista and IE8 users are unaffected by this nasty little bug.

I don't use IE.

What if you rarely use IE 7? Still DL IE 8? Is it able to get into your system because you have IE 7 on it? Whether you actually use it or not?

Heh, tried that. IE is embedded into the core windows software these days. Cant be removed.

Hey Treebore, yeah for now it is embedded in a PDF that you DL from a bad site or that is sent to you maliciously. It takes advantage of an inherent flaw in all versions of Acrobat prior to 9.1. If you update acrobat reader or pro or whatever you have to 9.1 then you are safe. If you dont and have XP and IE7 (even if you dont use it) then the code embeds itself into IE7 and allows remote takeover of your local system.

well I was going to upgrade to IE 8, but it says my system won't support it.

Hmm, that must be vista - I haven't looked. But you can in XP.

BUT, but - don't, cause you need IE to update Windows.

I'm a firefox user. I hadn't even thought about IE in a while.

I tried Firefox at the request of the geek who built my "Frankenbox" (homebrew system). I hated it. Half the websites I wanted to visit crashed every single time I visited them, and the rest wouldn't display properly. I went screaming back to IE and never ventured out of my safety zone again.

That's really strange. I've never had problem one with FF. I wouldn't dream of surfing the net without my firefox/noscript combo. Too much malicious code out there and I'm way too paranoid to surf with a browser that is opened by default to activex and scripts.

The problem may be in the 'frankenbox' itself. I have been Internet Exploder free for years and have loved it.

FWIW, the Adobe site has upgrade patches on its front page to deal with the previously mentioned security flaw.

I understand that Windows 7.0 is supposed to less annoying than Vista. I will wait and see, because I find that hard to believe.

Believe it! I'm running 7057 Win7 at work and it's so much faster and more responsive than vista that it reminds me of Windows XP. It's also rock solid even though it's still technically in beta.

Which is why I am holding out on upgrading until I see 7 finished. I'll just keep my XP until then.

I made the jump... to Opera, about seven years ago!

I have both on my computer, but use FireFox mainly. IE seems to operate so slowly.

I have no use for IE8. There are not many websites I have to use IE for, and of those, I check them only once or twice a year, so I really don't care what happens with IE.
