Generic Island Map

So here's a generic island map I did while I was bored today. It's done in Campaign Cartographer 3.

Feel free to yoink it and photoshop it as you see fit. I intentionally left the names off of the towns, towers, and settlements so you could name them as you wish![/url]

Yeah, wasn't bad considering it's only my third try at making one. Campaign Cartographer certainly has it's quirks, but once you get to know them, it's pretty easy to use. Not as easy as Photoshop, but close to it. Hope it gets some use some day. If there's a demand, I can do more generic stuff in other styles other than the hand-drawn vector look.

Note that it should print out okay on a regular 8.5" x 11" piece of paper, but one thing I haven't learned is how to actually make the damn thing bigger in CC3. If I try to scale it in photoshop, it turns into a pixelated mess. I will do some more investigation.

I dig the hand drawn look. It looks like what an explorer may have put together. I can throw it at my players when they check out an area and they can fill it in with all their notes and adventure seeds. And it is much easier on my printer.

One thing I gotta' remember is to put text, buildings, etc. on their own layers! That way it'd be easier to turn labels on and off for player/dm handouts! Duh...!

Thanks!

I'm finding a need for various building interiors. Such as poor homes, town house style homes in poor and middle class sections of town, various shops, like the bakery, butcher, smithy, ceramics/potter, libraries, herbal/alchemy shops, etc...

A variety of temple/churches for the various religions found within cities would be nice.

Chapter houses for Knightly orders would be cool too.

A school of magic, with various research labs, classrooms, private quarters, storage rooms, the zoo for live specimens, etc...

So if the inspiration ever hits, those are my suggestions.

I'll try and do a few tonight. I'm still learning the program along with Dungeon Designer 3 and City Designer 3 but over all they are nice programs, if a bit eccentric.

City Designer? So you could do up city blocks? City/Town squares? Those could be handy for city chases, etc...

I have CC3 and the other associated programs. what little I did with the tools came out looking good, but with everything going on I've not tried to map anything out in over a year...

I think there are some good maps on the company's site, but it has been a while since I've visited it. I'll dig through my hard drive to see if I have anything you could use.

By the way Dave, good map! & yeah the thing I learned the fastest was to use the "layers". I killed me after working hours on my castle to see that I couldn't turn off all the traps and hidden rooms!

Have a good one

Yeah, although I've mainly just been puttzing with the overland map creator. Haven't even tried the City Designer yet. Just started dabbling with the Dungeon Designer add-on today.

I'm in the same boat as the others. Once you get the hang of the tools, it's pretty easy to create a map. The tricky part is creating a good map.

Tree - if you go to the downloads section of the Profantasy website, you'll find a ton of things various users have submitted. There's a free viewer program Profantasy provides that you can use to view (and I believe print) the files directly, and of course you can always take screen captures and dump them into paint or something.

I'm inclined to say the same is true of a pencil and paper.
Dave, that's a sweet map. Especially for one of your first, I'd say.

I messed around with CC2's free demo back in the day and just like you say, after you learn to deal with it, (some things it does are not, for me, intuitive, but I"m not much of a CAD guy) I think it's a powerful tool.

I was thinking of sharing a map or two I've done, but how do you make it a jpg? is that a function of the full software suite?

I guess I could try to post the cc2 file, but you'd need the viewer, and I don't know if the cc3 viewer currently on the profantasy website is backward compatible.

....

I'm feeling inspired, here are screen captures I saved with Paint Brush. In theory, these will be for the Short stories and perhaps novel i am "writing".

The "Known Lands" ruled by the Shantovar sorcerer-warriors. (I suppose they're like Monk/psionicists in AD&D terms)

The Lands north of that....

A closer map just of the Kingdom of Mhoud (Sort of a fantasy arabia type setting)

This was meant to have a parchment look, but I didn't or couldn't figger out how to make the icons have that color scheme.

I like to see people making maps, but personally I just don't like Campaign Cartographer maps. Never have from the beginning, and with CC3 still don't like the look of them.
