M&T Beasts or lack thereof.

Post by LordSeurek »

Will the Trolls be including any additional 'Beasts' in any future Monsters books? Noticed whilst playing a Druid here that the Summon Beasts or Plants only includes 2 beasts from the M&T; Ankheg and Jaculus. Seems pretty restrictive. At least there are 5 'Plant" type baddies.

Well, Monsters of Airhde is on its way. The cover looks sweet too.

Maybe a Book of Beasts ?

Owlbears are Beasts as well (in errata or 1st print anyway).

Ankhegs being like a giant praying mantis w/o wings (and i think a flying giant praying mantis would be cooler) don't seem like they would be vertebrates.

Looking at the submissions sent in, by count:

10 more plants; 7 beasts. I had thought I had written up more of the latter as I had hoped to expand the sections I considered "weakest" in M&T concerning quantities of creature by type. Hmm. I'll need to make some more beasts.

I bought all 4 Monsters of Airhde PDF's, I'll see if there is more to be used in it.

I checked all the other monsters, as well. Here is a breakdown of what I submitted before Steve told me to stop.

Extraplanar: 13 [that was not on purpose, but I find it funny...]

Undead: 11

Magical Beast: 6 [again, not on purpose, but it makes me laugh]

Construct: 6

Humanoid: 4

Aberration: 8

Animal: 2

Elemental: 7

Ooze: 2

Shapechanger: 5

Fey: 10

Dragon: 4

Monstrous Humanoid: 7

Giant: 3

Vermin: 3

Plant: 10

Beast: 7

Total (not counting variant subspecies) -- 108.

There are no such things in C&C.

However, if you were to use them from 3E I would make them beasts, because IMO I would say magic definitely has something to do with their being so huge. Not enough to fully classify them as "magical beasts" though, just their size.

i always thought the idea of "Dire" animals...odd. As I'm running a 3.5 game on the side (using the generic classes from UA), I might do away with Dire creature altogether.

I could have sworn I saw them in M&T... must have been ... something else.

I dunno.

I still got my C&C game kicking, though. I just can't update it in the Campaigns thread...I'm not that organized.

And I've got new-to-my-table players. As soon as they're comfortable, it'll be TPK time...then C&C time. One of the new players (out of 2) is already intrigued with C&C (emailed him the QSR).

Let's not forget the C&C conversion of the Book of Familiars!

I know that's been mentioned at least once before...

That's been talked about, Mort? That'd rock!

One thing I wouldn't mind, and that would be rules for gaining an "animal companion." That would be pretty cool, and a nice addition to a C&C-ized version of The Book of Familiars.

There isn't much on the conversion itself but there has been a bit of chatter on it here on this thread:
http://www.freeyabb.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... llordgames

And there was mention of it on Steve's blog from a month ago:

Good Days Are Fine Days

Today was a good and productive day. Though things have stalled a little bit on the release front as A6 Of Banishment and Blight languishes on my desk we are moving forward on many other fronts. A productive meeting this weekend led to changes in the Barbarian, Illusionist and Monk class. Minor on the latter two but major on the first one which brings us a few steps closer to the 4th printing. Peter turned over Monsters and Treasure 3rd and I had a chance to look it over quite a bit. We had a good business cycle last week embarking on several joint ventures which will help our overall cash flow. I wrapped some of these up on Friday and today. All very good.

The new facebook page for Troll Con seems to be giving us a little traction and with that in mind Richard McBain and I had a productive meeting today which will see a greater emphasis on a number of conventions including Dragon Con this fall.

I have a growing amount of game material on my desk, day to day operations have not allowed me to tackle it as quickly as I would, but here are some of the items to see in the very near future: Monsters of Aihrde IV, the CKG, the aforementioned A6, Of Gods & Monsters, Heart of Glass and the Book of Familiars.

So things are moving at quick pace here in the dens, hope you all keep along for the ride.

Seeing that it was an older d20 product that TLG produced, you will no longer find it on the website but I was able to find it on TrollandToad.com with a description if you are not 'familiar' with the earlier work:
http://www.trollandtoad.com/p143137.html

I have the book, and I like it but I think it would need a hell of an overhaul. It would be awesome to see this for C&C and would IMO be a logical place to put in a lot of 'excluded' and naturally occurring creatures for use in C&C.

That would be nice to have. Just picked up a 50ft Croc named Chomp as an animal companion. What in gods name do I do with her besides eat all my enemies

Crazy man. Kayolan is running Temple of the Frog, and the gator tried to eat our ship before I snagged her....
