As I sit here with my feet propped up and enjoying a few ice cold Ziegan Bock Ambers I can't help but consider the writing along the bottom of the label:
"Brewed Exclusively for Texas"

Now, if this is true I must lament because Ziegan Bock is perhaps some of the finest tasting beer I have ever had the fortune to imbibe and over the years I have imbibed a large quantity of the tastey brew.

If they really do not sell it outside of this great state, I feel bad. But at least there is more for me.

Seems to be true. The website has it written all over the place, and it doesn't seem to have an ordering feature. Not that I care, as I don't drink anyway, but yay for the most boring land mass next to Siberia and Antarctica! Gotta drink out there...

In all seriousness though. I've been drinking this stuff for a few years now and had never bothered to look at the label before. I know Anheuser-Busch out of Houston brews it.

Another gem from the label:
"A smooth, flavorful, balanced beer worthy of a Texan."

That's just funny to me. Yeah, that's what I look for in a good beer; a little ass-kissing on the label.

Eh, well, I've lived in Texas... and I was not impressed by it, other than sheer size.

Oh, and yeah, it did seem the beer was affiliated, or owned, by Busch, as their links point to such things, which would be weird if they were in competition.

A Texas....dwarf?
Although I have to admit, you do sound like both a Texan and a dwarf.

As a fellow Texan (although Im currently living in Arkansas), I can attest to the fact that Texas can be quite fun, depending on where you are. I had great times in Corpus Christie and wouldnt trade them for anything. Not having a very advanced palate, I am not really interested in the finer beers, but we have a really nice micro brewery here in Little Rock that has won national awards and I like their beers (Diamond Bear).

I'll freely admit its not the prettiest of states. Something about the place just suits me though. I've lived in Illinois, California and Virginia and Texas is the only state I haven't packed up and left yet.

Microbrewery beer is often the best. I wish I would have known about Diamond Bear when I was still passing through Little Rock with regularity, I'd definately would have given it a try.

All joking aside I do have family near Waco. But I have yet to find a reason good enough to leave my beloved Ozarks. I think I'd go nuts without the hills surrounding me!

I miss the hills and mountains as well. But I enjoy the lack of a state income tax and a number of the other laws.

But, I will give you that Missouri ranks up in the "Cool States" department in my book. Not a wussified state at all.

....and the silent shadow of the Washitonian uprising continued on under the very noses of the rest of the TLG boards.....soon, yes soon they would rise and the boards would be astonished at their numbers....

BTW, AZ suits me like a glove. I find that very wierd considering the other fine states I have lived in. Florida, Georgia, SC, N.H., Maine, Ohio, and California. I have done some extensive visiting to Missouri, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tenn., N.C., Penn., Michigan, and Indiana. Plus I have at least driven through and spent a night or two in every other state of the union (continental, not including Alaska) except Montana, the Dakota's, and Wisconsin.

for whatever reason, AZ is the only place I have ever been and "felt" like I was home.

Wink myself, but for some reason the restaurants in Denton don't carry it anymore. Best beer I've drank...with that microbrew Gary introduced Indigo Rose, Dungeon Delver, and I to last year being a close second.

And TX rocks. Its the birthplace of my lovely wife!!!

Dallas reprazent!

Being that i was born and raised in Dallas, i still love going back when i can. Which i usually at the very least two times a year. Sometimes more. I've lived in Little Rock going on 20 years now. And i do like it here alot. But if i moved back to Dallas tomorrow, i wouldn't be sad (except all the friends that i would leave behind here).

ALEA IACTA EST - THE DIE IS CAST

Mmmm, a large part of my extended family lives in Texas. Katy Texas to be exact, and until recently Houston. Not impress, dirty, TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, AND IDOTIC urban planning. The city engineers must be drug addicts or something. Not to mention that large ammounts of dust, almost intolerable heat and the crime rate. (My uncle has had 3 cars stolen! One from the parking lot of the Houston Museum, at noon, on a Saturday!). Add that in I got a speeding ticket for going 70 in a 65 zone, south of Dallas, on Christmas eve, I even showed him my military ID (normally a get out of ticket free card).

Anyway despite that, there is one thing I LOVE about Texas: Burnt end brisket sandwiches with pecan pie.

If the speeding ticket was along I-45 south of Dallas, that's a speed trap there. They can be a bit rabid in their enforcement.

And you're right about Houston. That is one nasty city, my first trip there some dude tried to mug me. The a*sho*e. That has colored my thoughts on the city ever since.

And YES, brisket cooked right is among the most delicious meals ever. Mmmmmm....

It is frustrating that it can be hard to find at times. Even my usual beer store doesn't always have it in stock. I lucked out yesterday though, we were shopping at Walmart and to my suprise they had some. I snagged the last two six-packs with devilish glee.

I just wish I could find a place that carried 12-packs of it. Only seen them once a few years ago, hadn't seen one again since.

I lived around Dallas for a while. Worked at UPS their as a preloader then as a part time supervisor. I was also in the Army Reserve their, the 245th Psy Ops, Airborne. Dallas was always a fun ass time. The autobahns, the clubs in deep-ellum. Even experienced my first mini-riot in Dallas.

That part of my life is gone, but I have good memories of Dallas and Texas.

And on the topic of cities and crime. Atlanta still has the distinction for me of having the most "Holy Crap!" moment that I witnessed.

I was stuck in traffic on the loop and when it did finally start to move again some guy's junkre car died....causing yet another delay.

An angry motorist then got out of his car with a can of gasoline, poured it over the junker car and proceded to light it. The burning car and fistfight that ensued had high "Wow!" factor.

I had the bright idea of moving to St. Louis once. (Notice I'm back in SW MO!) My first weekend there was the one that made me think I needed to leave. In that weekend I came upon a gang fight at a car wash, A bust that pulled more people out of a car than humanly possible and an old man selling 'herbal remedies' out of a sweaty ball cap.

Three months later I had enough and left never to go back again.
