Not really a movie watcher so I dunno...

Don't really think of them enough to say I have favorites.

Movies, of any genre? Wow. That's a hard question...

Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn

Natural Born Killers

South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut

And these, only because I could / would watch them if they were on.

In today's mood, I'd say

Alejandro Jodorowsky's 'The Holy Mountain'

Hayao Miyazaki's 'Spirited Away'

and

Elem Klimov's 'Come & See'

Tomorrow's list would be different

I agree with Serl... if someone happens to be an avid movie watcher to pick just three is damned near impossible IMO. It would be hard even if you restricted it to genre. I love so many movies for so many reasons!

So, instead of simply trying to select 3 all time favorites, I'll pick three lesser known or often overlooked ones which I've enjoyed:

The Ninth Gate

Whale Music

Four Rooms

Honorable mentions to:

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead.

Without a Clue

Erik the Viking

I disagree. If you are an avid movie watcher, there have to be three that stick out as incredible in your mind. For whatever reason you favor them, you know you have favorites.

To select only 3 movies -- Sorry but I really can't. I am an avid movie watcher and someone with a very diversified palette so a couple of movies may impress and stand out in my mind for one reason... but others for completely different ones. Maybe I'm just not discerning enough when it comes to my movie viewing. For me, many stand out as incredible in my mind because of a moment that the movie conveys so well that you can't help be blown away or it just tells a story that you don't mind seeing time and time again. Some other favorites off the top of my head:

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

Dances with Wolves

Das Boot

Fellowship of the Ring

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Saving Private Ryan

Pulp Fiction

Gladiator

The Godfather

Fight Club

Princess Bride

Ghostbusters

Back to the Future

Vanishing Point

Casablanca

Richard III

Elizabeth

... and the list goes on.

I easily have 750 titles in my collection, probably more, and there are many I would still love to own. I might be able to bring it down to a top ten and even then, it would include such things as the Star Wars Trilogy (IV - VI) as a single entry.

Ahh, Pat, Four Rooms is a great film. Many, many allusions in that one.

I'll have to go with four. I'd say they're all tied for that 1-3 spot, and the fourth one I just couldn't leave off the list.

Bladerunner

Pulp Fiction

Fight Club

Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut)

This is tough. It would be easier if you asked for the 3 best movies of all time instead of my 3 favorite. I routinely think about which are the best movies, but I really haven't given much thought to what is my favorite, especially since it shifts over time (e.g., I loved "Real Genius" back in the 80s, but it doesn't mean as much to me anymore) and I'm more into good TV these days.

Here's a best guess at my favorites (in no particular order):

The Godfather

Almost Famous

The Last Temptation of Christ

I guess my favorites would be determined by how much the idea of watching them again appeals to me. So based on that...

Iron Man

Matrix

Independence Day

These are the ones that appeal to me most today, and likely most days.
