*chuckles* Well, I'm sure that's not coming off as well as Steve would like. But there was a time that Society was divided up into various estates. The First through 4th.

First estate was nobility

Second was Clergy

Third was the merchant class

And the 4th estate was the peasantry.

With all respect to Mr. Bradley, the "fourth estate" actually refers to the press (or in today's parlance, the media).

Upon a little further digging, it looks as if it has been used for both. However, today it's usually used to refer to the press.

Haha

Yes, its the press. As with all these terms...to include liberal and conservative that change over time. The Troll Lord 4th Estate is the Media room. I utterly despise the media, loath is the proper word. No, that doesn't quite capture my feelings for this collection of dottering, uneducated, uninformed, inexperienced, blithering mouth kettles who yak away on our evening's News channels quite well enough...and its not just today, Walter Cronkite started this wave of idiots on the tv...errrr

Wait, what were we talking about???

Media.

Right.

I don't like that word, so I groused around until I remembered the press has been referred to the 4th estate and it just seemed to fit. But at the very least it made you look!

Enjoy, there will be more of those videos coming too. I couldn't believe they actually have a character that looks like Davis!

*chuckles* Not in the time I am thinking of. They didn't have a press then. In fact, it was before the press was invented.^_~`

in the middle ages, the classic three orders were those who fight, those who pray and those who work. when first conceived (in the 11th century), those who work referred solely to peasants. I am unaware of any later medieval writers who revised this tripartite system to include merchants, although perhaps such a formulation is post-medieval. The classic source on this is Georges Duby, _The Three Orders: Feudal Society Imagined

Hell, all them thar fancy computin' and tweeterin' is fer 4e players, not fer us oldschool types! Box up yer computeng devahses, fellers, ya don't need em!

/queues up dueling banjos

PS- on the serious, if we do not keep up with tech at least a little bit then we are going to be the only people playing C&C in a few years. We have GOT to keep some sort of presence up on the web aside from the main web site to help bring in new folks and to keep the existing fanbase (the ones that want it) more informed. If you are one of those "Bah, twitter" types, then do not bother with it, it will not hurt your existing game. I know for a fact that some new folks have seen us on facebook and twitter and headed over here to see what we're about.

PPS- The above is coming from a tech-guy and contains all the slant and bias integral to coming from such a position.

PPPS- I know that the peripheral sites are currently almost useless but that is because we arent updating them enough. Please begin to do so, Troll-site-updater dudes.

I have to second Jason here. I'm a BIG time anti-technology fan (that's right, fan). If I wasn't married and with children and working this type of job I would be living in god knows what kind of box out in the woods grousing around in the weeds for my fish tallow chap stick. But we have to move forward with the times and take advantage of these things.

Facebook, which I was very, very reluctant to set up, has already garnered us some good press and gained a number of attendees for Troll Con in the local community. That is a good thing.

I'm not sure of the usages of twitter, but Kim Harsfield is going to take it over for us and make it more consistent.

I have to say this, as the only one able to blog for TLG, as I'm the guy with all the guide ropes in my hands, it would really help if people would sign up to "follow" the blog/twitter/flutter/piper/whistler and his mother. If I knew there were 10-15-35 people who were "alerted" when I post it would motivate me to post far more often.

These boards have become a fantastic place for us all to gather and talk and really, it would be sweet for us all if the other formats guided and sent folks here.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, would you please include some mention of the Society on the "estate" page, if it is not there already.

Brian and I are working on the Society page connections. We have some nice things in the works...as you very well know Sir Robert!

Yes, I know, but we still need to discuss things unless you've settled on them?

I am pretty much a technology child hehe If I could jack in like in Shadowrun/Cyberpunk I would and for you perverts that was IN not......
