Hi everyone,

I am wanting to find out something, this is a post I did on nother site a while back and it turned out very well for people who did not know what other user names meant. Now I make a post of it here so that we may all know the origin of our names.

With me for example my username Vagabond comes from 3 different places. The first was, the first MMO nline game I ever played was a game called Vagabonds Quest that had a very good RPG built into the site besides the chat/battle other half of it that only part of where I get my name from because I liked that game so much and then it just up and died when they made the VQ2 version also on the Netdragons website, but the original VQ1 is still there thank heavens. The second place I get my name from is the song by Metallica-Wherever I May Roam and the third place I get it from is because if you ever look in a dictonary you will see under Vagabond that it is a person who goes from place to place without a home unfortunatly this is how I once used to be.

Now let's hear your story.

Mine comes from my first email account, when I was at a loss to come up with a username. Ended up just putting the first two letters of my first, middle and last names together. Got attached to it and just kept using it.

Mine should be obvious to anyone 40+. It is the dective, in a wheel chair, kicking crooks asses all over the place, did I mention he is in a motherf u c k i n g WHEELCHAIR!

For those who don't know it was a 70's detective show, which there was a lot of. And, trust me I agonized over Ironside and Cannon for about two days. The decision breaker was Sir Ironside sounded better than Sir Cannon.

(Though watching Cannon leap in the opening scene is something everyone should see at least once.)

Zebulon is the name of the creature whose photo I use for my avatar. It comes from somewhere on the Internet. I do like its weirdness.

Mine is from my second ever rpg character. My first was in a D&D game and when we retired from D&D and moved to AD&D I retired that one for a while. While I did, eventually, adapt that character to AD&D also, my first AD&D character was a fighter named Dynel Cargothic. I made up the name on the spot and for some reason it's stuck ever since. He became my first 2e character, too, but I retired him after 2e and he became more of an NPC if he was ever encountered from the late 2e AD&D days onward. Though he wasn't my first character, he has been my most beloved character.

Funny thing to that I still have the original D&D for PC somewhere around here it's a 5 disk collection. But anyway keep the storys rolling.

Well, my username dates back to the username I frequently used and adopted when I frequented various BBS before I frequented the internet. I adopted the username because of my fondness of the Arthur Conan Doyle stories. I love the Holmes stories (both original and inspired ones) and I love a good villain.

Mine is a really really big number...and comes from the days when I was doing a lot of online chatroom stuff....where there are any number of...less than sharp sticks...whom enjoy trash n bash chat.

Being somewhat a goof and a smartass (if folks haven't noticed by now) ....Go0gleplex (with the googly eyes o0 ) just seemed to fit, being a bit odd sounding, somewhat unique (and was in use before google was a mote in a programmers eye) and a slap in the face to the dullards in the chat who liked to bring nothing but misery with them...

1 guy (me) followed by a whole LOT of zeroes (the jerks)... *innocent smile*

Zebulon comes from childrens books about Doogie the dog I believe....could be wrong, but it looks much like the characters in the Doogie's movie.

In high school, as part of an ongoing boredom thing the clique decided would be a temporary fun aside, we developed a language of sorts, but not really grammar -- mostly vocabulary. The name is one of those words, and the original meaning was "one who serves." It has since been modified, by me, to mean something else.

Well, I'm a Star Wars fan and my last name is Ore. Luke Skywalker was a huge hero for me as a young boy of 9 when I saw the film in 1978.

My avatar came about later after I took an Internet "quiz" about what kind of die you were. I keep coming up as a d6 "Nice guy, but bland" or something like that.

Mine comes from my favorite characters name.

Sorry, you just took me back about thirty years. That's Zebedee from The Magic Roundabout (or Zebulon, as you quite correctly state, in French). The freakish things they let us watch...

Ah, you don't get telly like that these days.

OK, mine. A sundog (or parhelion in scientific parlance) is that smudge of brightness or broken rainbow that you get either side of the Sun on hazy days. It's caused by ice crystals high up that, in the right alignment, reflect sunlight back to the ground, creating these bright patches. I like the name because it's genre-neutral; it can sit comfortably in any forum, and is slowly displacing older handles.

Literary character (Black Company by Glen Cook). The number is just to keep me seperate from all the others using a similar name.

Mine came from the Bugs Bunny cartoon, "Knighty Knight Bugs". I can't begin to add up the number of hours spent developing my twisted sense of humor through the mid-70s and 80s. Part of that process involved watching The Bugs Bunny-Road Runner Show on CBS every Saturday morning. Yosemite Sam riding the dragon was always one of my favorite "fantasy" bits. The knights of the square table that were shown were Sir Osis of Liver and Sir Loin of Beef. The latter is cute enough, but given my career (not drinking) and one of the hobbies I've been known to enjoy in my day (drinking), I thought the former was perfect.

Mine is my favorite AD&D character too. Coleston was a paladin (of St. Cuthbert) and a sub-class of the Unearthed Arcana Cavalier. It was running him for a few years in high school that I learned to love rpgs.

I played a dwarf in a long running 2nd Edition campaign set in Greyhawk. His band of dwarven soldiers, due to their unorthodox fighting methods were dubbed the DangerDwarves.

Which in turn comes from a character in the 2nd edition Trivia Game who was used in several questions.....Drago DangerDwarf.

Mine is the name of a character of my creation that I used to write about in some short stories that never got published. The name came as a homage to Julian Bashir form DS9 and my best friends and I who were nick named the Brothers Grimm. ( we may have earned that due to some...incidents)

The character, Julian hasn't been wrote about in awhile though he is still around pestering me for a new story.

Mine is the nickname/call sign that I received on one of my deployments. The Army guys I was with never knew exactly what I was doing or understood why I was there with them, but when they needed something I was always there with the answer, warm coffee at sunrise etc etc. The team daddy finally said "WTF, how do you always know what I need before I even turn to look for it, or have the answer before the team lead thinks to ask it? Do you lurk around the shadows and hear everything, now when exactly is the snow going to get here, and where is my coffee?" From that point on, with all the teams I worked with I was "Lurker".
